Do VAR not have the overhead cameras like the WC did? I suspect the ball would have been in play if so. Mitoma’s goal for Japan looked further out of play but was deemed in play.

No it wasn’t. Both were correct calls with the camera along the line. The only crime was VAR spent an extra minute looking at it when it was clearly out because it was Man Utd at OT.

We were bang in line with the touchline and we were all shouting it had gone out BEFORE they scored. Didn't expect VAR to give it our way, though.

There have been a few "goals" where fans have been convinced the ball was over the line, because the can see a bit of grass between the ball and the line, but don't always appreciate the curve of the ball and how the curve stays over the line.

i struggle with how people can’t see the obvious…

Was convinced it was going to be given as a goal! Very different game if it had gone in. Surprisingly VAR worked though.

My main point is why don’t they have the overhead camera like they did at the WC. Camera angles very deceiving

The camera angle almost directly along the touchline shows it is definitely out.
This is the best angle I have seen.

Seen several United tweets from behind the line where it looks 30% in play.
We all know the law and how cameras work.

The fact is that linesmen regularly flag for throw ins when the ball is actually 20% in play.
It's an incredibly difficult call to make.

Not sure why the inball tech isn't extended to the touchlines too.
Must be a relatively simple modification to existing tech.
