Well City's lawyers will have an idea of whether the case went really well, really badly, or somewhere in between. If it's in between then those at the top won't even know what's going to happen.

City’s Board may well be hearing one thing from their eye-wateringly expensive legal team whilst simultaneously protesting their innocence in public. But behind closed doors they ought to be planning contingencies. They’d have to sack themselves if they didn’t.

It’s almost impossible to be caught up in a doublethink exercise like this without unsettling the next layer down … which undermines the next … etc etc. And before you know it, you start losing games without being able to put your finger on why.

Nah. The club have spent the entire time claiming they're innocent and confident they will get no punishment, and while that's false bravado, they're not going to have quietly gone to the players 'we think we'll get a 60 points deduction, so don't bother trying'. Perhaps you're only suggesting that some players have a nagging doubt, and that can effect them, which is fair enough. But they don't know their fate any more than we do.

The fact is that a couple of key injuries (like Rodri) combined with the entire squad getting a bit old and crap (like Walker) all combined to make them drop.

A few of them will be onto their agents trying to work out who may take them on a season long loan next season!

The vast majority of guilty poeple do. And then when they're banged to rights say "they made an error of judgement" to be followed in turn by some mitigating factors. stress, mental health etc.

In this case their offending has (reportedly) been so egregious and sustained, a guilty plea would’ve provided little mitigation or reduction in penalty, I suspect. Probably in their interest to fight it and drag it out with the most expensive best lawyers money can buy and take their chances with the panel.

Yes I know, I'm not at all suggesting that the club don't think they're in trouble, but as I said, they're not going to tell the players that.

Maybe I'm just being a bit soppy, but isn't it possible that Pep feels some kind of loyalty to the players and other ordinary club staff, with whom he's worked for so long and had so much success? He may well have serious doubts about City being in the PL next season, but nonetheless doesn't want to be seen as the first rat to jump ship. It's only a years extension after all.

The articles I've read seem to think that if any punishment is given out to City that they will immediately appeal against it.
Making it unlikely that any table this season will be affected.
(But no one knows)

I can just see a Europe place for us or even CL (you never know) being dependent on if the points deduction goes through after initially being given and us spending all Summer obsessing over it on here…!
