Just how lawless is France these days?
Plenty lawful. But when odd people reach the coast, it is no longer the French problem

"Over yonder is land not in the EU." Off you go, then.

We Brexitted and now we reap the rewards.

(If I were the French I'd give them all a packed lunch and an inflatable vest just in case. The fact they don't is a testament to their sang froid.)

Why would you do that? Why would you help thousands of economic migrants to cross the channel because the UK has left the EU? Do you consider it as some sort of well-deserved punishment?

If I were French I would consider it as not my problem.

Why should the UK not adopt the same vuewpoint and ship them straight back to France?
We should.
But the tories wouldn't be able to weaponize it.
Not that we could anyway as we don't know how to do it.
So we won't

You appear to have failed to include ‘being spectacularly patronising’ alongside your other self-observed qualities.
Not at all. And the personal attack is uncalled for.

I just think there are ways of ‘taking sides’ on the issue of immigration without resorting to emotional hyperbole and characterisations that invariably are not based on fact but on bias. This is true of any divisive subject. Dialogue is impossible imo without mutual respect of the ‘other’s’ POV.

I guess working in politics for decades, you get used to having discussions based on pragmatic perspectives - you realise very little can be achieved in the way of meaningful dialogue by shouting across at the ‘opposition’ from the ‘safety’ of an echo chamber. Dehumanising anyone in political discourse immediately turns off the ear of the listener and I personally find it unpalatable. It is far easier to convince someone of one’s point of view if one at least starts on the basis that everyone is at least partially correct. None of us are that divided.

Those that seek asylum are not illegal and over 80% are granted asylum by the Home Office. Figures from the Refugee Council.
Some people, they are blind or ignorant as to the law, including our current Government - any refugees that arrive in the UK seeking asylum are ‘illegal’ apparently - it seems to suit the narrative that asylum seekers are unwelcome and it is ‘right’ and ‘justified’ to enforce harsh detention conditions and threats of expulsion.🙁

Really? We're talking about people who were desperate enough to put their lives at risk. For me, life and death matters are not for joking around. None of us know who they are or why they did it, so IMO making jokes at their expense is not what anyone should be doing.

That's not being easily offended. It's called "empathy".
Where are their wives and children??

Can you be anymore stupid and less sympathic to those who won’t have to put up with it for much longer

Yes, we've heard all that before, including the ones that convert to Christianity.
That's good then , we should be able to send them back

It seems that the anger from the absolute failure of Vote Leave 'Taking Back Control' and the Rwanda plan is causing the racists, xenophobes and Islamophobic to publish their actual views on this thread. Who would have guessed :lolol:

You have already shot yourself in both feet, where are you aiming for next

Is it wrong that I found certain comments on this thread funny? Yes, it's probably wrong seeing the overreaction by some....
Sense of humour failure by the easily offended.
Most reasonable people would recognise this isn’t the sort of thing to joke about.
I’m not easily offended. I just recognise puerile bad taste when I see it.

What is so bad about France ( an EU country ) , that people are risking their lives and spending their savings to escape from .

Anyone care to explain ?

Oh. I’m sorry. You seemed perfectly happy to provide character assessments about others; I should have realised it wouldn’t be welcome coming in the other direction.

And besides, if you truly believe the term ‘spectacularly patronising’ constitutes a personal attack, then I hope for your sake you never antagonise @Simster; he’d drive you into the ground like a rusty tent peg.

But why wouldn't you?

It's a reflection of the tin pot wanky lazy underfunded way the tories deal with asylum.

'No blacks here'

Black man arrives

'I'm white'

Minimum wage 17 year old with clip board says 'Ok then. Come in.'.
Exactly.

White people in England: why won’t these people just INTEGRATE?

Also white peopke in England: why are they converting to our religion?

It’s almost like there’s something else they object to.

If the people in the freezer were in there nicking chips and were white British, from Scunthorpe, assumed gammon/brexit voters, I bet all the "empaths" on this thread would have no problem making a joke about it! Darwen awards would me mentioned within minutes.
