Truly shocking and this is just cancer, imagine all the other emergencies and health problems that are also suffering.

The statistics are basically meaningless, which does mean I have a little more sympathy for Boris et al. It also means (FAO Harry Wilson's tackle ) that if I have understood her correctly, the mortality rate is also more or less meaningless. The mortality TREND is not, so carry on the good work
there will be some very interesting analysis of overall mortality and disease diagnosis for 2020 in future.Truly shocking and this is just cancer, imagine all the other emergencies and health problems that are also suffering.
I've always assumed soIs Harry a girl?
Telling people with health concerns to contact their doctor isn't the same as easing the lockdown and telling all the shops to open, and everyone to go back to work/school etc.Something the “Oh, so you think we should ease the lockdown do you? So you’re happy that the vulnerable will die” brigade always conveniently overlook.

Yes, don't just turn up. But you can call them, and get their advice on what you should do next. And as I say, calls for making sure patients can see a doctor is not the same as calls for the pubs to open.someone needs to tell health services, our GP has sent multiple emails and text essentially saying dont go to them.
Yes it's certainly understandable that fewer people will go and see a doctor, but as above, that doesn't mean you can't distinguish between calls to end the lockdown and calls for more patients to be seen. The doctors surgery here is shut. The nearest A&E is eight miles away. The Buses are erratic at best. It’s not hard to see why people aren’t being diagnosed.

Bear in mind this is second hand, there is no control group and I have no proof, BUT, a friend of mine who knows an ICU nurse at one local hospital was told by her that every CV19 case currently in her ICU was either a smoker, an ex smoker who smoked heavily for a very long time or lived in a house with a smoker.
I would have thought that’s about everyone over 60 covered there ?
Nope. My mum's neve touched a fag in her life and neither has my step dad. I can remember the look of absolute horror she used to give me and my brother when we lit up in front of her and we were in our 20s (I haven't smoked for 15 years apart from the odd sneaky when I'm hammered, and I'm still worried).
Undoubtedly more people in that generation smoked than younger people do today though, which is why some verification and a control group would be nice.
re smoking it was noted early in both China and Italy that many hospitalised were smokers. interesting contrast to recent evidence that smokers are less likely to be infected though. biology ees complicated.
