That's what happens if everyone goes the day it opens!

Everone is bored, I have been off work since March the 9th, went to Waitrose last Friday it was and is stil the most exciting thing I have done in 8 weeks ! and now hearing that I cant even listen to some Cricket, I am actually losing the will to do anything except getting drunk.

Deaths in the UK have increased by 761.

Still plateauing but no sign of any downwards slide yet.

(Figures form the Daily Star: https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/breaking-uk-coronavirus-death-toll-21921167 )

It is undoubtedly going down and has been for some time. Not rapidly but it's going down. To say there is no sign of any downward slide is a bit disingenuous when there is every sign of one.

There was a "spike" in Wales as they've reported a lot of historic deaths today. Which is the problem with this method of not reporting actual date of death.

Public Health Wales said:
The new figure for total deaths reported today includes 84 retrospective deaths which occurred between 20.03.2020 and 22.04.2020 in one health board. The sudden increase in numbers is due to a delay in the reporting process.

Fair enough, but to be disingenuous would be a deliberate act and it wasn't. I want the figures down and wouldn't lie about them.

Hey Notters ... this is what I wasn't getting yesterday ... why the difference? Can't be lag because the total on your graph looks well below the c 20,000 reported so far (or is it?)

The Dept of Health are giving the death number 684, which is an improvement.

Apologies for posting a false figure in ignorance before.

(Note to self: don't bother with the Daily Star in future.)

The other figure I believe is because Wales, due to some processing issues, reported around 80-100 unreported deaths from a few weeks ago.

28k tests, good to see this figure ramping up now.

Will be the same on the roads, the first day people can travel freely to see family.

No chance I’ll venture out day one.

Sorry .. re the above post this difference ... your graph saying 100 elsewhere saying 700+

As I understand it, the graph from the NHS shows deaths by the day they occurred. The daily figures from the Department for Health are for deaths recorded in the 24 hours up to 5pm on the previous day but doesn't mean those deaths have all happened in the last 24 hours due to delays in reporting.

This does means the figures on the NHS graph for each day (especially the most recent days) will be very likely to go up.

I think if you ignore the last 3/4 days due to reporting lag, there is a definite and constant, if only gentle, downward trend

The thing I find a little strange is that these are hospital deaths and they still appear to be adding deaths from over a month ago (the small orange bits on 11th, 18th and 19th March ). Now I appreciate these are only very small numbers but I would have expected hospitals to report more quickly ???

Circa 100 yesterday, circa 250, and more for previous days - and this is England only.

The vast majority of the figures released each day (day 0) relate to deaths that occurred in days -2 and -3, with some going back over a month. The peak has steadily been showing as the 8th April for a while now.

I think you've just heard the reason 100,000 tests a day won't be done by the end of the month.

'We will have the CAPACITY to do 100,000 a day, but we are not doing it for a number of good reasons' ???

We will have the capacity to do 100,000 a day, but we are not doing it for a number of reasons.

Please elaborate, I missed what they said.

Overtaken Italy on normalised cumulative death graph. Often said that we are "2 weeks behind" Italy curve, meaning a fairly steady rate of deaths daily for quite a while yet
