Its a huge leap from saying someone has an underlying condition to saying they would have died anyway! Lots of conditions can be underlying but be chronic for years without serious consequences. My son in law aged 45 has asthma which he has suffered for years without beig hospitalised. Would you discount him from death stats if it happened to him? Its not as simple as you are trying to claim.

Interesting study going on in France regarding Corona virus and Nicotine, apparently during a study in one hospital, only 4.5% of those admitted were 5 time’s more likely to be non smokers than smokers, although smokers were more likely to have serious complications. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/metr...hes-tested-coronavirus-patients-12597306/amp/

Sorry, probably the wine but I can't understand the bit that says 'only 4.5% of those admitted were 5 time’s more likely to be non smokers than smokers'.

What does that mean?

What?

I am posting that because the other poster is claiming almost everyone who dies had underlying health conditions. Quite the opposite of the conclusion you are drawing. You need to reread the thread and aim that at him!

Some would have died anyway and some wouldn’t. It’s already a small % (young people deaths (18-44)) and it will certainly be lowered again because of those who would have died of those underlying conditions with or without covid.

The point is the daily death level is over 600 and decreasing, not over 1000 and increasing.

Daily death level (whatever that means) is not decreasing. It is steady. Here is new cases:

As posted on the deaths thread, a more detailed analysis: (verus Apr 20, not 17, third data set, no matter)

I know people won’t like this, but I like Matt Hancock, you can see in his eyes he is under so much pressure and I’m sure mistakes have been made by many, but you can see he really cares he doesn’t come across as clinical and emotionless like some. As a human being I feel for him.

Much more positives coming out of the briefing today, hospital occupation down 10% on this time last week and ICU occupations mostly below 50% and decreasing

Certainly prefer him to Raab. I’ll say that much.

Was he the bloke on Question Time a few weeks back full of the joys of Spring?

I nearly topped myself after the negative spoutings of whoever that was.

Edit: Thought his name rang a bell, he was on 27 March. Right barrell of laughs he was.

He was the one saying in mid February that shutting the borders to incomes from China was pretty much racist.

He has no credibility.

I made some disparaging remarks about his views on peer review with reference to when I was at a meeting with him some years ago, but he's the last sort you'd expect to be laying into a tory government. Maybe if he hadn't been the editor in chief at the time the Lancet published the Andrew Wakefield load of utter bollocks (MMR and autism), his journal might have a bit more traction with the policy makers. The editor in chief who cried wolf? ???

He's the editor of one of the very top medical journals in the world. And you claim he has no credibility. Hmmm

It used to be one of the top medical journals in the world. Then, on his watch, it supported the now discredited theory that MMR caused autism. As a result, a lot of scared parents refused to allow their children to have it.

Very interesting. Not your LSD level summary, but the article.

I remember that when researching smoking bans, there was a study that said that virus infections actually increased on flights after the flight smoking ban was introduced, though people trying to understand that result thought it was probably because a decreased need of air ventilation on the planes. Still interesting.

Maybe our lungs are too disgusting for certain viruses.

And yeah I realize that the study was probably paid for by mr Philip Morris himself but its still 100% unquestionable since mr Gary Morris did a peer review.
