Lowest percentage increase in Italy so far! Even if its still a lot of people, I really really really hope Italy are getting getting some results from the lockdown now. It would give people a lot of hope when we go into lockdown.

It's a shot for bacterial pneumonia. The virus causes a viral pneumonia and from what I read in the early days of it, a lot of people got into trouble when the viral basically caused bacterial also and you had both at once and were generally ****ed. Could be wrong but seems a smart enough move to get a vaccine against bacterial if there's one available to you and she's in the danger zone age/contact wise.

I thought it was. I had mine a couple of years ago. I think they last for 10 years.

NY State alone has 15,168 cases out of a 19.5m population. The UK 5,683 from 66.4m. So far, of course.

No wonder some states such as NY and California have now taken drastic action, whilst The White House blows hot air about “The Chinese Virus”.

Got a text from my aunt who is a midwife at Surrey NHS. Rarely hear from her but she has said it is grim on the front line, now seeing younger patients, who admit they haven’t been self isolating. Overall numbers are spiking dramatically now too.
Sadly still massively lacking PPE on the front line

Agree, I think this is one of the articles the “it’s just a flu mate, you doomsayer” folk were peddling around as some kind of proof.

Whilst completely ignoring what was happening in Asia and starting to happen in Italy. Looking back it was actually a very dangerous complacency.

I’m torn. Glad and relieved people are finally waking up to the severity of the crisis, yet I’d much rather have been proved wrong. Looking at the trends and the British public’s reaction (even now with crowds etc), I fear we are going to be have a larger peak than Italy.

The bloke's shown himself up to be a bit of a ****, despite his qualifications. His only mitigation is that he is in Toronto who are well down the infection table.

Sorry, but this has largely been caused by bad advice by the authorities - its not the people. They have closed the bars and restaurants and encouraged us to get out and enjoy open spaces. The National Trust threw open the gates of its parks for free (they have now rapidly back-pedalled on that). People were following bad advice.

I know what you mean but they are idiots who can't think for themselves or are extremely selfish.
I didn't follow bad advise, nice and sunny I would have loved to have gone out, but I didn't and everyone I have spoken to today, family and friends have stayed in.

It’s interesting how the daily ‘death toll’ data comes through at vastly varying times from each European country. Spain had announced there’s this morning whereas France have announced nothing yet.

Is our death toll done at 48 for today? Do any deaths from the time of the announcement onwards go towards tomorrow’s count?

Think you'll find that the announcements are for a 24 hour period. So if England announce them at a set time it will be for the 24 hour period prior to that (allowing for a certain amount of time to collate the figures which in the digital world shouldn't take long). So, the 48 deaths announced today, didn't all die after midnight last night. For arguments sake, figures seem to be released at about 4ish each day so it will be 48 deaths from 4pm on 21st March to 4pm on the 22nd March.

Now clearly, to you and I, that’s a moronic thing to come out with. But what percentage of the population has read the ‘official’ post on Facebook that says you can only catch it from someone if they’re oozing luminous green slime out of every orifice and have steam coming out of their arse, and even then only if you haven’t crossed your fingers in time.

And therein lies the reason you need the military to enforce common sense, something which I expect and in many ways hope for in the next couple of days. Do not underestimate the capacity for human stupidity. It’s ****ing MASSIVE.

The site linked will generally update each country a few times throughout the day. At one point (possibly around lunchtime), the UK was listed as 11 deaths for the day.
