If we are going similar to the Italian numbers, unfortunately deaths will start sky rocketing by the hundreds in the next week or so. Feels helpless now there’s nothing we can do to stop this unfolding at this part of the outbreak, just have to hope we can slow it.

We are in absolutely no way relatable to Italy whatsoever. We will have similar overall infections for sure, but this thing completely blindsided them due to the virus spreading unchecked for quite some time.

France, Spain and Germany are the ones to look at.

They'll just have to spend less, there's no other choice. We can't just keep schools open and to hell with all the deaths.

GCSE's not taking place in May and June. BJ has said qualifications will not be impended and in time grades will be given fairly, whatever that means. My son is in year 11 so has been working towards these. He's pretty annoyed with all this being so up in the air

My kids and their friends are in a similar position. It’s not up in the air anymore, GCSE’s and A’Levels have been cancelled for all.

Kids being kids, mine are over the moon that there’s no school possibly for many months aheads, 100’s of lay-ins.

School and sixth form work will still be set online, but that bit hasn’t sunk in yet.

Not really we now have at least one parent who has children now not working when surely the more sensible thing would be to start testing frontline essential workforce like nurses and teachers to minimise disruption.

I'm proper ****** now. The mrs was due back to work on april 1st after maternity leave as we have a 7 month old now. Due to maternity pay decreasing over that time money has been tight. We also have a 5 year old. Now she cant go back to work because the schools have shut. And her work are enforcing unpaid leave.

My work have said there will be no sick pay if I get it so will only get SSP.

I'm now panicking when I was relatively calm about it.

I cant find circa £1k a month to cover the shortfall and that figure will be more if I have to take 2 weeks SSP.

I'm also a private renter.

My stress levels and blood pressure are through the roof.

Use their holiday allowance and use grandparents in our case. Holiday allowance won’t stretch to the additional time now needed and grandparents can now not be used. Unpaid time off only option and will be the same for families up and down the country.

Really feel for you especially with a young baby and sadly this story is going to be replayed up and down the country in the coming months. My wife just returned to work now having to give it up to look after the little one as nursery has closed. I am on temp contract which could easily be cut short at anytime as companies make savings so very nervous about what is coming.

I think you’ve got to cut a bit of slack here. The sheer scale of what government is dealing with here is unprecedented in modern times.

They didn’t leave the “what about exams?” question hanging - they covered it straight away.

I don’t think they can be expected to have a definitive solution today because we just have no idea how this is going to play out.

I can’t see how education can recommence in the Autumn anyway, thinking about what would have to happen for that to be “safe”, so let the educational establishment give some thought as to the fairest way of getting things back on track whenever that is.

I’m not expert to put it mildly, but I’m following a lot of doctors and professors on Twitter who know their stuff and testing is the one thing they keep repeating.

More testing means they can focus on actual cases and, as seen in South Korea, it can lead to fewer deaths.

I read two really interesting articles today which differing views but worth a red together.

The gist of the first was that we have a real lack of data on this, primarily due to lack of testing, but various indicators are that this may not really be that bad.

The second article, written in response, didn’t dispute that broad point but reinforced that, regardless, this can overwhelm a health system on very short order.

I need to walk the dog - I’ll dig them out when I’m back.

I completely get your stress but hang in there buddy.

You don’t have the virus right? And although it’s hugely concerning time’s you are still highly unlikely to contract it, and if you do you are more than likely going to suffer mild symptoms only.
