I'm surprised the teenagers haven't started claiming they feel ill and need to self-quarantine, staying away from school.

Probably because I don't think teenagers go to school anymore, do they?

Totally over the top all this panic and forcing people to stay at home, and cancelling sporting events.
I just wonder how people are going to get on in the snow comes, as a double panic will send them into a tizzy. Go to a crowded supermarket to stock up with 83 tins of soup as the snow is coming, but face the possibility of getting some flu like germs.
(Yes I know about home deliveries, but the drivers will probably have been told to self isolate)

This. The panic some people go into is ridiculous and actually has serious effects on the rest of us keeping clam and carrying on eg greedy me me me types who buy an entire years stock of something

The FA are looking at the international fixtures planned in Italy at all levels and expect them to be postponed in line with other events involving Italy being put back

No, not really.

A good percentage of the accommodation along Lewes Road will be targeting Brighton Uni Students as that particular University does not have enough accommodation to cover it’s international and first year Students. Brighton Uni has a very small percentage of Chinese Students at the institution.

Sussex Uni, on the other hand, whilst probably having 1,000+ Chinese Students, is building accommodation on it’s own land which will house all first years, international Students and more. Depending on Brexit, that University could probably attract enough Students from outside of China if it needed too as it’s very well regarded internationally.

Also possibly relevant is the fact that on the continent people are far more intimate in their greetings. Regardless of gender, everyone kisses everyone else, where we would give a good old British nod from a distance. May have played a role in size and speed of the Italy outbreak.

I've been pleasantly surprised that, so far, we haven't had all the religious crazies in the States saying it's End Times and preparing to be Raptured and it's all the fault of us atheists.

Media induced hysteria from this is infecting everyone in the world. Japan is going batshit mental right now, with a grand total of THREE deaths so far (not counting the people on that boat). ONE old codger died of it in Hokkaido so they're closing every public school in a prefecture with a population of 5.21 million. The inability of people to apply logic in these situations is quite staggering. For perspective, 81,000 people died of lung cancer last year in Japan and yet despite hosting the Olympics this summer they still haven't banned smoking in bars and restaurants.

To be fair to the media this is a massive story. The numbers of people infected needs to be reduced and the only way of doing that is shutting everything down. That's a pretty big story.
It doesn't appear to be killing the young and healthy yet but who knows when/if it mutated. Just because the death rate is low now it's not something the world should shrug their shoulders at. Old and sick people matter also.
It's looking like you can get it more than once also which is pretty major.
I don't work for the WHO but I have been doing football accumulators for years so appreciate how numbers can rapidly increase.
