So the Business Minister says you can just ignore any pings you get from the app, but No 10 says it's crucial to isolate.

Incredible.

“It is … one of the most compelling pieces of evidence to support the notion that the cure was not worse than the disease,” said Yamey. “It does seem that countries that acted quickly and aggressively often had fewer deaths than in previous years. One study showed that lockdown may have reduced annual mortality by up to 6% from eliminating flu transmission alone.”

Quick and aggressive responses to outbreaks, not sticking your fingers in your ears singing 'la,la,la' pretending everything is okay as we again seem to be now.

Or pushed it back and made it worse?

Advice needed - had my first jab at start of June. Quite keen to get my second done ASAP, can I just book in myself beyond the 8 week mark (as the NHS site allows me to do) or do I need to wait to be called for my 2nd dose?

Just there are events in late August/early Sept I’d like to get to that may require 2 doses and I don’t know how long before the event the second dose needs to be…

I didn't wait for a good reason. I was in that borderline when they started giving at 8 weeks rather than 11.

I just went online and booked it. At least you know a bit earlier when that will be.

Bollocks - just had an alert of a positive case in Bozza, jnr's year group so they're all isolating from now, bringing an abrupt end to the school year, which is his last one at his primary school.

They've already missed do many "rights of passage" things this year, such as a week away residential, and this knocks out the rest - a show tomorrow that they've been rehearsing for ages together (and why the whole year group have to isolate), an end-of-year rounders and picnic on the Gallops here in Findon later this week, getting to say goodbye to teachers and friends on Friday with a final get-together after school.

Many people have it a lot worse, so we're not complaining as such, but it does feel like a massive shame.

My son's primary school education ended in a similar fashion last year, only earlier. No last goodbyes, no end of year play, no trip away to Wales.

It was so sad, he didn't seem that upset but for a parent it felt empty. The pages were ripped out from the final chapter

96 deaths announced today sadly, highest for 4 months, sadly looks like we're now heading into the hundreds of daily deaths for quite some time to come.

That’s a startling number of deaths but most likely a reporting effect - the seven-day average by “date of death” (excluding the most recent days’ incomplete data) is 37.

The highest daily total we’ve seen so far in this wave is 45 on 9 July.

Yes I know 96 people have been reported of dying with Covid and that is sad and not great for their families, but look on the daily death by date of death and tell me the last time the figure was anywhere near that.

Seems to have been a bit of a back log somewhere as "Deaths within 28 days of positive test by date of death" has been consistently below 50 for 4 months now (take 2 days).

It was 41 on Sunday, this exponential rise is really scaring me.

I don't like the guy, I won't hide that. But pretty shocked by that...

I barely remember him. Once Brexit was voted on, the dedicated party/parties imploded with a small army of loons and the incredibly thick, infighting in leadership battles.

Dangerous stuff, this really influences people eg in London one third of those eligible haven’t bothered with being vaccinated (neither dose). A few those called LBC this afternoon, with misinformation about secret government control through the vaccine or it damaging babies through breast feeding.

Stuff being put around by both sides of the argument that is misleading and as you say has an undue say in influencing people

I’m on your pandemic wavelength as you know.

Lies from the likes of Tice and Icke may cost lives, some people are really influenced.

Tice is a bellend, I am not sure if he is anti vax - but it comes over as it.

Devi sridhar on the other end of the spectrum seem to talk down the vaccine as much as possible - complete idiots.

The problem with the Vaccine passport is it plays right into the Ickes of the worlds hands

Vaccine passports where a conspiracy theory and laughed at when they mentioned it a year ago, now here we are
