PHE "updated" their risk assessment yesterday for vaccine escape from AMBER to RED, government messaging doesn't reflect this

The sooner we get second doses into arms the better

Sure, and how many of the at risk will be unvaccinated?

We are at 22 fully vaccinated people.

Who is going to overwhelm the NHS?

Sage seem ok with the 21st

Second rule of Covid, conveniently forget all the times you called for specific measures that turned out to be the wrong choice!

“Hey Boris,

We have a real issue with vaccine take up in certain areas and certain groups, we need something to really ramp up the take up And make it known it’s the way back to normality etc”

it seems we're in perpetual conflict between those that want to have business as usual, and those who want to catastrophise and drive ultra caution. on the one hand dont fix known problems at airports, on the other hand tell vaccinate people to isolate.

i read somewhere that Canada had recorded 5 deaths from flu this last year against 6000 previous. i imagine its similar here (trying to unpick the published data is mare as its swamped with covid). people die from respiratory disease, we cannot try to get to 0 Covid, once vaccinated we take our changes like everything else.

Looks like the growth in the Indian variant in the week to 15th May slowed to 45% growth which appears encouraging compared to the previous week.

Obviously this predates the latest easing in restrictions, we shall see...

This is extremely worrying and shows why we need local action to prevent this variant really spreading nationwide. Already Bolton hospital under severe pressure with many patients under 49 and not fully or on any way vaccinated. If not a local lockdown then we need a return to a toughened up tier system to keep local outbreaks inder control before they become national problems. The acute issues at Bolton hospital show we are not out of the woods yet and cannot afford to drop our guard until everyone is fully vaccinated.

Some Kids sent home today from Dorothy Stringer and told to isolate for ten days after five positive cases that they’d been in contact with. Half term is next week. This thing isn’t gone yet is it?

Manchester City Council leader Sir Richard Leese, who is also health and care lead for the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, said the number of Covid patients at the hospital was still less than a third of what it was at the peak of the pandemic.

He said: "Even though there is a high proportion of cases, that high proportion of cases is not translating into significant increases in hospitalisation, and, more importantly, it is not leading to more people in ICU."

In fact as a counter to Crodos tabloid miserabilism and because a balanced viewpoint is good, occupancy in said Bolton hospital is significantly lower than in April last year and has in fact ticked down slightly today to 41 where the April surge last year saw in excess of 140

From the report it says there is 41 people in hospital in a 755 people bed.

If they can’t cope with that we may as well pack up and go into lockdown forever.

Burnham, who has been pretty good throughout has said there is no need for further action.

Update, these are 15 and 16 year olds, some were on a DoE weekend and some were just in class.

If the PM can't even have private discussions with advisers without every throwaway line being splashed to the press, then there will be a lot of things that go undiscussed. Is that what we want? And how would we all fare if every word we had ever said was available for use by people who don't like us and want to bring us down - could we be sure that we have never said anything, in or out of context, that could be misinterpreted by those who hate us?

You're not really trying to defend this comment - if true - are you???
