Members of sage believe it will become the 2nd most dominant strain in a matter of weeks.

Paul Hunter, a professor in medicine at the University of East Anglia, cautioned that more information is needed, including data about how severe the disease is compared with previous variants in both immunised and non-immunised individuals. But he agreed the India variants could become a major challenge for the UK.

“That we have a new variant that is increasing so rapidly, even during a period when we are still in a pretty strict lockdown and have more than 50% of the UK population with at least one immunisation, is very depressing and suggests that as we come out of lockdown this variant could accelerate even more rapidly,” he said.

You love this stuff don’t you, it’s like Covid porn to you...!

its worth reflecting that the Indian variant was detected and recorded first in October. the mutations imply it will be more transmissible, though the lack of general spread over months is contrary to this. the reason for large surge of cases in India is they had massive festival last month, and overwhelmed by the consequence.

Thankfully there is no reason to believe the vaccine doesn’t work with it

Little disappointed there is only a voluntary need to test AFTER the test rave event. If they have the details of all those that attended then they should be contacting them ALL a few days after the event for test results. Doesn't seem too much to ask, does it?

The amount of people replying who don't know that this is a test event is hilarious. :dunce:

Those comments are incredible!

Twitter really does bring out the worst in people. There's an army of people out there who are desperate to whinge and moan about something, covid combined with social media is basically heaven for every nasty busybody!

Everything inside is monitored fully, I think a large number will get tested and it will only take a low % of up take to see if there is an issue.

They are anti vaxers, they must be.

Only real issue is Oct he vaccine doesn’t work, it does.

It was explained on the radio this afternoon that this event, containing low risk and tested punters, was very deliberately designed as a test to analyse its effects in the coming weeks.

A ramp up, which if successful, will help us all at larger events.

Understand that, still stick by the idea that if you wanted to be party (excuse pun) to this then it should have been a requirement to be part of a full follow up.

What if you do have it but you have picked it up at the supermarket a day later?

Test on the way in, we need to move away from the test everything 15 times, obviously if you have symptoms test.

Thankfully we are moving more towards a personal choice position.

If people don’t want to mix even after the vaccine, that is their choice - which seems to be the gov/sage view.

Independent sage are becoming a cult.
