Gods country fortnightly
how much travel is there in and out of Vietnam? not really comparable to modern western country.

we enjoy an awful lot of travel normally, being an island is of little consequence. we could cut out the holiday market at a stoke but thats a courageous decision if rates are low and other countries are allowing tourists in. people see their holidays as a right these days. we probably should have had some stricter rules, would be odd to apply them now as rates cut and vaccines become common.

Vietnam had 18m tourist arrivals in 2019 its a big industry. Despite sacrificing it they still manage to grow their economy last year

It would be a courageous decision to cut the overseas holiday market this year, but this whole thing is far from over across the world. Doing gives us our best hope of a normal winter with more restrictions and god forbid lockdowns.

The doom predicting scientists of the '3rd wave will kill up to 100k this summer' are confusing me. Perhaps as a non scientist I'm missing something obvious, but it seems fairly clear that Covid doesn't like the summer, hence likely a repeat of it dropping massivley to at least the levels of last summer. This also completely ignores the benefits of the vast numbers of vaccinated people vs last year and those, likely in the millions, who have had covid and have some immunity.

Will cases increase as we release some shackes? Probably.

Will this release kill many thousands this summer - unlikely.

The tabloids have a lot of responsibility for this fearmongering, but also some scientists need to apply seasonality to their models!

Its fine to be confused by these scientists. It appears they are backtracking and saying that there is now unlikely to be a surge in cases when unlocking continues and even that any surge this winter is unlikely to have major repercussions. I believe it's a telegraph article

Covidiots out in force in London today wearing Star of David copies and comparing their 'plight' to that of the Jews under the nazis. There is a particular word with four letters to describe this woman and others who wore the star. The swear filter would of course bleep it out. Add Lawrence Fox to that adjective too.

Unless they were likening lockdown restrictions to the industrial scale massacre of the Jews then I don't see the connection.

Well I was asking the poster so I don’t think you need to worry....I’ve assumed (rightly or wrongly)he was referring to all of the protesters in London today which the bbc seemed to have missed and not just that one segment

Took my first trip to the pub on Thursday here in Lyme and I have to say the setup was on the whole outstanding. On arrival we were both made to fill Inna questionnaire on our covid behaviours in the previous week and sign up to an agreed covid code of conduct whilst on the premises. All waiting staff wore high grade masks as well as a visor and disposable gloves and aprons. There was a one way system in place through the outside terrace and we were only permitted to leave our table to use the toilets or leave the venue. Tables were at least 2m apart, possibly more and were only for a maximum of 4 guests. Felt hugely reassured and have already booked a table for next week.

Did you not read his post before asking about it then?

Fears of Indian Covid variant outbreak in Leicester as officials launch testing blitz at a school after three travellers are struck down with mutant strain

Members of sage believe it will become the 2nd most dominant strain in a matter of weeks.

Paul Hunter, a professor in medicine at the University of East Anglia, cautioned that more information is needed, including data about how severe the disease is compared with previous variants in both immunised and non-immunised individuals. But he agreed the India variants could become a major challenge for the UK.

“That we have a new variant that is increasing so rapidly, even during a period when we are still in a pretty strict lockdown and have more than 50% of the UK population with at least one immunisation, is very depressing and suggests that as we come out of lockdown this variant could accelerate even more rapidly,” he said.
