I dont agree when it's a public health crises which is different to say ticket touts at a concert.
This is stuff that could effectively prevent you or a loved one getting seriously ill or God forbid worse. the official government advice is to use stuff a few have now horded and is unavailable, and are selling (in the Amazon listing case above of £3.50 - £99) at a 2828% mark up.
If you saw the initial Wuhan thing, there were loads of people who needed to go to get food or things to survive, and masks, hand gels all grabbed by a few, leaving loads with nothing. If selling rock band or football match tickets at massive mark up is touting and punishable then 100x more so on the edge of a potential public health emergency.
Since the same is statistically true for you then it’s good for you too.

I don't think I'm making myself very clear here. Obviously it's a major concern. We don't know how it will pan out. But it seems elements of the media are thriving on it. Issuing instructions on hygiene is the correct action. Talking about worst case scenarios as if they will become fact is unhelpful. That's the difference. It's not a judgement, it's a question.
It's almost as if some in the media want this to take a horrible turn.
I know you think this is just like a bad cold (or similar), but do you also believe that infection rates and fatalities in the UK will remain as they currently are, ie this will remain as being less dangerous than driving a car etc?
I ask because I don't think anyone who has a level of concern beyond yours will dispute the ultra-low level of risk right now, as we discuss this today, but are more worried about the potential impact of this as relayed by the like of the WHO, Public Health England and the Chief Medical Officer.
I am one of those who will be in the high-risk category if it takes hold due to respiratory issues. Not over concern at the moment as feel risk is currently low and there is a lot of hype by the media, but keeping an eye on how it is progressing and being much more aware (booked my Norwich away tickets today so must feel confident for BHA & it will not take hold).
If it does get worse then certainly will need make changes, work from home (already agreed with work due to using public transport), may mean missing a few games and keeping away from others.
Food wise, always have a good stock of all the essentials, and would be a good excuse to use some of the stuff at the bottom of the freezer and those tins and jars that are out of date

80+% have mild symptoms.At the moment 50 people in uk have it now on a 2% death rate that means one person will die. Yes not great if that one person happens to be me. (although some may disagree). But panic buying etc is quite ridiculous. The next couple of weeks will be crucial. Pandemic or next to nothing. Lets all hope for the latter!!

My only concern at the moment is just how many people are needlessly panicking and the impact it may have. Like rocking a boat, they’re going to take us all down with such selfish hysterical behaviour. Too few people are seemingly able to keep calm and carry on. Makes me ashamed of my fellow countryman, we used to be world renowned for our resilience but now we’re no different.
Just ordered a couple of barrels Harveys as intend to self isolate for a couple of weeks.

Not me personally but I've got a 2 week old daughter that I'm bricking it for, parents are in their 70s so worried about them, sister runs a care company looking after the elderly so worried about not only her health but her income as well if half her clients are wiped out.

Anecdotally (a friend of a friend knows the “super spreader” from Hove) the disease can be mild to unnoticeable. Statistically the death rate (including margin of error) is between 0.5% and 4%. The lower range is no worse than flu. The higher range is more worrying.
There are currently mumps outbreaks in the country which can seriously damage young kids, made worse because of the thick bellend anti vaxxers, and several strains of flu (my daughter got one in October). No one seems to be advocating forced vaccination for MMR and flu, yet here we are with people on these threads wanting borders closed and gatherings banned when there are still fewer than 100 cases in the UK. It’s mental.

I think you’re projecting too much, albeit from a good place. My elderly family, some in 90s are matter of fact knowing that increased risk of death from something increases year by year. That what was once unpleasant can now kill. We all need to deal with our mortality better, and if there’s one thing we’ve become exceptionally bad at its accepting the world is full of threats. That and there’s no one to blame, which is the other thing more recent generations seem unable to accept.

Ha ha, I’m seeing the new film Dark Waters this weekend coming, booked a dentist appointment today, went to Albion last weekend so I’ve almost a full house. Haven’t been shopping because I hate it, but still popping to buy groceries etc - and not in survivalist quantities either!
