Seeing that only about 5% bother to wash their hands at the AMEX, I would say it will probably spread quicker here than China, once it gets a grip.
Am I worried? Not really but I worry for the people I know with underlying illnesses.
The Spanish Flu killed 10s of millions, including my great grandad a 100 years ago.
We don't want to see it anywhere near that level again.

The Spanish Flu entry in Wikipedia is worth a read. It wasn’t the flu virus that was the main killer, it was a bacterial superinfection that caused the most deaths.

Wife has brittle asthma and lymphangioleiomyomatosis, a very rare lung condition which only affects women and is unfortunately a degenerative illness. She has already had to resuscitated four times and is very fortunate to be alive. I have spent many a time in the "family room" being told she will not pull through. This will kill her beyond doubt.

So yes I'm concerned and unfortunately my job entails going out and about every day in a lot of major cities. I have raised my concerns with my employer and yet to hear a response.

The only bit that surprised me, and I think it contradicts what some have said on here, is that China have a lower-quality health system which would lead to a higher number of fatalities than we may experience:

"The average case fatality rate is 3.8 percent in China, but a lot of that is driven by the early epidemic in Wuhan where numbers were higher. If you look outside of Hubei province [where Wuhan is], the case fatality rate is just under 1 percent now. I would not quote that as the number. That’s the mortality in China — and they find cases fast, get them isolated, in treatment, and supported early. Second thing they do is ventilate dozens in the average hospital; they use extracorporeal membrane oxygenation [removing blood from a person’s body and oxygenating their red blood cells] when ventilation doesn’t work. This is sophisticated health care. They have a survival rate for this disease I would not extrapolate to the rest of the world. What you’ve seen in Italy and Iran is that a lot of people are dying.

This suggests the Chinese are really good at keeping people alive with this disease, and just because it’s 1 percent in the general population outside of Wuhan doesn’t mean it [will be the same in other countries]."

Populations are controlled by inducing panic and fear, it’s how religions and extreme politics work. My own personal opinion is that there will be exaggeration of the cause and effects of his virus in order to demonise the Chinese communist state. For who’s political and financial ends, who knows.

If they’re predicting 50m will get Coronavirus in the UK, with a typical death rate of 1-2%. 500,000-1m will die.

So it depends if 600 is greater or less than 1,000,000 I guess!

Unless you’re already ill, or are over the age of 80, you’re probably going to be alright.

The source of the coronavirus is believed to be a "wet market" in Wuhan which sold both dead and live animals including fish and birds.

Such markets pose a heightened risk of viruses jumping from animals to humans because hygiene standards are difficult to maintain if live animals are being kept and butchered on site. Typically, they are also densely packed.

The animal source of the latest outbreak has not yet been identified, but the original host is thought to be bats. Bats were not sold at the Wuhan market but may have infected live chickens or other animals sold there.

Bats are host to a wide range of zoonotic viruses including Ebola, HIV and rabies.

Try getting anti bacterial gel! I did go out if my way to obtain some, only place I could find it was from Viking without being totally ripped off

Anti bac wipes almost out at my local Tesco tonight..just a few of the more expensive packets..same on the soap
