Over the weekend we had some people on here claiming it didn't matter that infections were on the rise, because deaths were falling. One definetly trails the other and if we don't have infections down to double figures by the end of the summer, I think we will be in trouble. The Chinese have identified a local outbreak and through track and trace, discovered a good number of infected individuals. Anyone in that area now knows to be on heightened alert, including the most vulnerable. I guess we will find out soon enough if they have contained it, or stumbled onto something much bigger.

Nothing on this thread over the weekend saying that...which thread was that then

Dam Harry I’ve been working all the time ...should I stop I’m nearly as old a git as you lol

Weigh the risk and the benefit.

If I had to I would.

As I don't, I needn't.

But I am working at home. Six hour stint working on a research paper today, no breaks, no crafty chocolate finger . . . .???

As always it’s risk assessment...life is full of them..fortunately I am in a work place where I set the rules and the risk to injuring myself is higher than catching a virus ...ended up with blurred vision on Saturday due to not correctly assessing the risk of something falling on top of me :(

I have been following this all closely. In the UK the vast majority of deaths are in the over 65s. The rest are almost all immunocompromised. My data crunching suggests it is all over for now (apart from in India, Pakistan, Brazil, Chile, Sweden and the sister-shagging states of the deep south).

I think we should have shielded the vulnerable some weeks ago and let the rest get on with it. Some youngsters will get ill. Some may die. But the prevelance is barely different from seasonal flu. We don't shut down the whole nation for that.

All the money that has been spent on furlough and lost economic activity should have been directed to shield the old and vulnerable. This was evident weeks ago.

Sorry but there it is. I'm in a moderate risk (of death) band (age 62) and I personally will be keeping safe, but the young (under 50s?) should all be back at work and in normal life.

HMG utterly clueless.

Think when it gets looked back on this would be seen as the correct course of action.

that is frighteningly close to our government's orginal policy, before the models scared them in to changing course.

elsewhere the US Tresuary Secretary said they cant shut down again, cost in economic and other health terms is too much.

surprising how little we talk about when healthcare returns to normal amongst schools, shops, pubs etc.

That's insane.

We should have shielded early and let the rest of society crack on. Insted we condemned thousands to death in care homes.

Why has it taken so long to obtain these fundamental and glaring stats?

**** me, how many years would it take this government to work out that only 0.01% of people suffering from nappy rash are over the age of 10, and that the rest of us don't need to be told every day to wipe our arses carefully and try to not shit and piss outselves? ???

BINGO.....!! world wide scam , global meltdown over a nasty flu. The global economy is now ****ed HMG is not alone in balling this right up.

Well I wouldn't go that far (world wide scam) but I would say the response had not been proportionate to the risks and that was fairly obvious back in March.

Just a matter of time till it’s 1m from the sound of it

Even 1 meter will mean society and businesses will not be able to function properly. Social distancing is something humans have never had to do since they crawled onto the land. Social distancing was mean't to be something temporary to stop the health service being overwhelmed but now 3 months on it is still as strict in fact more so. It seems we are mean't to accept this is the " new normal " It is on every high street and shop in the land and now firmly ingrained into many people's psyche which will be hard or impossible to change

Agree, and I also hate the way they use the term "New Normal". It's as if they are expecting this thing to be around till the end of time on this planet. It's a "Temporary Normal" if anything.
