I don't disagree but my instinct says that we will be bowing to the obvious social and economic pressure versus what might be right for the safety of many. I hope I'm wide of the mark

I was specifically asking about the quarantine comment .. I think it's a key element to successfully dealing with the virus but I've not seen anything officially communicated

I have not seen anything hence my asking and nothing I’ve seen indicates anything of the sort

Tricky one. My job I can handle another 3 weeks but much beyond that a real chance of losing it. Given the choice I'd certainly go back to work and take my chances with the virus. Obviously vulnerable need to not be allowed to do this but I suspect the economy will need to get back to some form of normality sooner rather than later once we are over this first wave

I think you're right as the only way to get rid of the thing is to wipe it out and have effective quarantine for those coming in. We missed the chance and don't have the luxury of time now so we're f****d.

I'm not sure if the economy does get back to normality, much will depend on the severity of the 2nd wave ... we don't know that given most that I've seen about asymptomatic and mild symptoms appear little more that total guesswork

Nor do I know what the 'vulnerable' do, sit indoors for xx months? Indeed I don't know if we really know who the vulnerable are. Am I one? Are those near and dear to me vulnerable?

Time to shut down for the day

You can only go on what you read, see and hear - but We are not far from this being a large number view I think.

People losing houses/jobs v someone dying they don’t know is a no brainer.

A no brainer for who?? It might well be someone they do know. I imagine most people know someone, relative, friend, aquaintance who is vunerable and might die.

And till it’s that person people will prioritise themselves over someone they don’t know.

unless we are down to zero cases then vulerable could die at any time. I do have 2 very vulnerable family members.

Economy will have to be kick started again while there are still thousands of cases so what do you suggest ?

At some point in the not so far off future these things will be happening.

Of course you can still social distance to a point and avoid family that are vulnerable but the country will need workers back and workers will need to get back before they lose everything also.

Just putting it out there

Any pressure to change to ease the lockdown is coming from the media not the public. Of course that may change bit at the moment health is well ahead of economics (whether thats right or wrong.) I know nobody who believes the lockdown should be eased until it is clear we are well past the peak of infections. Actually most people seem to think the lives of strangers ARE worth a sacrfice.

It's the people still testing positive which again today is over 5000 that is worrying yes more tests being done but after lockdown over 3 weeks ago it's still not reducing.

It could just be that they're testing way more people now compared to three weeks ago. Seek and ye shall find.

Your point is valid.

At some stage a compromise, as in Spain today, will be reached where striving for perfection to minimise new deaths (within a lockdown that the public will largely abide with), will be weighed up against; family finances, potential bankruptcies and tiny to large businesses simply running out of cash. The natural strategy of every business since the lockdown has been to preserve what cash they have. Healthy companies I help would be able to make 12 months, whilst others are pot-less, their modest spending owners now close to losing every tangible thing they own.

Do you think if you asked people who are at risk of losing a job etc they would answer the same way ?

Health is attached to more than Covid 19 - and some will take the risks of that ahead of the other options they have.

Why do you think Supermarkets are full of people needing to get a job urgently?

All I am saying is that for now even those in a difficult personal employment position appear to support the current rules. None of us can know anyway but I remain impressed that support for difficult decisions remains firm.

It's a little bit like in the Jurassic Park book. They were running a program to count the animals on the island, but they were counting expected animals rather than total animals. So, the count was a self-fulfilling process to give the number they wanted to see. But counting the full number gave the actual number of animals on the island, and it was an absolute nightmare scenario. Luckily, there weren't too many folks on the island so the death rate was well mitigated.

It's coming down in Spain and Italy, even with more testing. This thing is a bugger but the infections will come down if they aren't already.

Spain have made very few adjustments though, as our resident Spaniard has told us. The media here have run with the headlines of Spain lifting their lockdowns but there’s not been that much change.

I relied on Spain’s own newspapers. As from today the Spanish PM opened up the following non-essential sectors:
Law
Manufacturing
Telecom’s
Gardening
Domestic workers
Construction.

A move slammed by regional leaders.

Individual employers seem to be phasing it in in their own time.
