Shouldn’t this debate be taken to the political response thread?

Considering they’ve nearly doubled the test numbers in the past week that’s pretty good anyway.

No. Time for the government to be held to account. Inadequate tests, PPE and ventilators despite all the promises.

I've been accused of being a lot of things in my life, but a "Little Englander"?

Are you having a ****ing laugh!?

Remind me not to take anything you post seriously from now on. :lolol::lol::laugh:

The comment of yours I originally quoted strongly suggested our response and the resilience of our health service would dwarf that of Italy.
I invited you to consider your opinion of our government in light of facts that made that assertion ridiculous.
Please do so. Regardless I revoke and apologize for any suggestion your comments stemmed from a little Englander mentality.

This shows the number of deaths that have happened compared with the trajectory we seemed to be on last week.

Maybe there’s a I don’t have an opinion thread too?

Isn’t praising the doubling of testing just a positive thing to say about things to my negative? What is actually the difference other than you politicising you’re happy with it?

Exactly. It’s not party political, it’s just governance. Im under more scrutiny as a school governor than some people think this government should be!

Shocking scenes in New York where they are building mass graves in the Bronx for people who cant afford funerals. This is the richest, most powerful nation on Earth, not a 3rd world country.

For what it’s worth, you’re right. The government should be held to account and held to account now. People just don’t have an appetite for political scrutiny at the moment. Rightly or wrongly. Don’t take it personally.

Good point. Apologies. Letting my anger at the numbers get the better of me. Stay safe all.

No it's absolutely SHIT.

The government promised 10,000 a day. Under promise and over achieve is leadership 101.

This crisis has been handled appallingly here.

it was 19000 yesturday.

now is the time for government to handle the immediate issues and improve the situation. holding to account is for later, unless anyone is proposing resignations, elections etc to bring in new politicans to follow the same scientific advice? (and change advisors?)

Is only the richest country in the world for the one percent.

He didn't say that, or provide any sort of link. He made it sound like it was 19,000 in total. That was kind of my point.

Well I'll stand by the fact that our health service is much better than the health service in Italy. Because it is.

I don't support our current government and I don't agree that they have done the right thing through all this shitstorm.

If you take a look at the "Self Employed getting 80%" thread then you'll see that I KNOW the opposite, and have mentioned it once or twice.

What has been done financially (which Hancock today admitted will cost many lives) has been nothing short of a disgrace.

This does not detract from the point that Italy is a mess of a country, mostly run by gangsters, that I trust no information that their government supplies and that lots of lives will have been lost because of that.

I don't like our government, I don't like our political system, I don't like our justice system, but I know for sure that I'd rather be here than Italy in a worldwide crisis.

Apology accepted. But please read what I actually write rather than inferring incorrect stuff.

Peace.

This crisis has been handled appallingly here.

I remember looking at peak death rates in Italy and Spain and thinking of the reasons as to why they are occurring there and not in SE Asia. Their health services where overwhelmed with people dying in corridors unventilated, we have (according to Hancock) 2,000 spare ventilator beds but we’ve still surpassed the 24hrs death rate of Italy and Spain.

Something has gone very very wrong. I suspect it was the libertarian and popularist approach to the lockdown and closing borders.

It’s also interesting to see how other Island nations have done against Covid-19, NZ have one death and a rapidly declining infection rate after their very brave and courageous PM shut up shop and began a super early lockdown. Not very popular decisions and against some libertarian beliefs but her people actually trust and respect her so they have towed the line. 800 house parties in Manchester yesterday tells us that we needed authoritarian measures, fines and penalties for the huge amount of idiots we have in this country but none have surfaced.

Meanwhile the death rate continues to climb.

To be fair that mass grave has been there years for paupers and people with no family - it's just getting a lot more use at the moment...!
