I am concerned as my partner is a teacher and is pregnant... and still having to work.

Might be worth asking her employer if she can stay at home. Being pregnant puts her in the vulnerable category I would have thought.

I don't know what to do to be honest, the UK have no restrictions as yet and I am prepared to isolate for 14 days on my return.
The flights as yet have not been cancelled, as Qatar are still going into Gatwick, I check the Gatwick schedule daily.
If the flights are cancelled or they decide to change their policy then I would get refunded I suppose.
Thinking of delaying by a year and having a 60th birthday return at 61 !
It would be disappointing visiting a country where everything is closed and I was really hoping to get my National Trust fix and take in a game or two.
It wouldn't stop me from visiting folks I haven't seen for 15 years though.

Your last sentence is a little worrying ! All non essential social contact is at an end for the time being.

Studies in Italy (on population of 3,000, so a smallish study group) now showing as high as 50-75% of infected can be asymptomatic - no symptoms. Can’t help but think this is good and bad news at the same time...

Like you say, good and bad news. It's difficult to get my head round the implications and subsequent behaviours. I don't suppose that article would help even if I could translate it

Why are the government telling us not to go to the pub/social environs and not enforcing it ?

I really, really, can't get my head round this.

The other reason, albeit rather glib one, is that 'we' don't respond well to being told what to do.
I'd imagine that is even more likely in the current climate of political barrel scraping.

'We' are far better working it out for ourselves no matter how slow some of us are in getting off the start line.

I’m a bit worried about my mum as she is 95. She’s told me not to go back this year as she doesn’t want me to catch it. I’m more concerned about her catching it! I promised her when I moved over 3 years ago that I would go back every year to see her. Difficult decision ahead and I’m still hoping to go over September time but I’m sure not booking anything yet.

I get your point, thinking of maybe next year providing this isn't a mass extinction !
Waiting for flight to be cancelled then the refund won't cost me anything.
I am thinking of going and getting tested over here, just to confirm all is good and if all good will decide then.

If the government enforced it, the businesses can claim on their insurance. Many insurance company owners are political donors.

Idris Elba now has it, though is apparently asymptomstic. The sheer numbers of celebrity types who have tested positive already suggests that this already way more rife in our community than the official numbers show (perhaps even more so than the inflated 10,000 figure quoted yesterday).

I think it suggests air travel which celebraties tend to do more threw petrol on this fire.

No it's so the government has no responsibility, they've basically said the balls in your court do what you want but we wont pay for any of it.

Hi, I'm from South Korea.

The situation here got a lot better than western Europe countries.

I have a question, why don't you guys wear masks? I saw in the news that they treat you as a sufferer if you wear masks and there was various assault incidents to mask wearing people.

In Korea, if you don't wear masks you get treated as a idiot.

Wearing mask has effectness on protecting yourself, but it can protect others from you too.

The reason people get infected is because of the infectee's saliva. If you wear mask when you go outside, even if your infected at least others don't get infected by you.

95% of the koreans nowadays wear masks whereever they go, and that's one of the reason we fought successively through the risky period.

I don't get why people wearing masks are treated like that, and there are no words from the public broadcast on the importance of wearing masks.

Different cultures.

I wouldn't have the guts to wear a mask out and about as it is so unusual to see on somebody that is white/British. It would draw unwanted attention to me and increase my chances of getting beat up.

We are also advised not to wear them for scientific reasons.

They should water down this over 70s thing and say that for example for the first 2 hours of local shops/banks/libraries etc trading only the over 70s are allowed to go. There are so many ways the system is going to break down over this one isolation rule alone, people in flats will get no exercise for 4 months etc. etc. So many of them aren’t online as well, so cannot access services via that medium.

my suspicion is the unofficial policy is to continue the herd immunity approach, allow the virus to spread gently through the population. others think its to avoid insurance payouts. take your pick, policy will probably change by the week anyway.

Cheers, just about got it now.

I think the pressure to close them will mount before then, especially if we start seeing teachers with confirmed cases (or worse). Fingers crossed not [emoji1696]

But this means basically sod the teachers whilst everyone else locks down as much as possible.
