look at recent data, countries with more restictions have seen massive surges in covid from October. this shows the effects of masks are limited. its not "look over there", there's no competition, its studying the data for real evidence.

or they've had a more virilent from ripping through undetected, no one is suggesting that. open to other hypothesis to explain the data.

In the minds of some posters here there really is some kind of competition, there have been several snide references to other European countries being far worse off than we are despite the UK having higher case numbers and fatalities even now.

It's almost like people have a Daily Mail/Daily Express mindset of jingoism and desperation to be "sovereign" and " World Beating" at all costs.

That snideness cuts both ways. The pandemic seized upon by people who love talking this country down, ignoring the very long list of continental nations who’ve had higher excess deaths per capita than the UK. Some way higher. With subjective nonsense of how other leaders have been highly effective …. when their death tolls are high, where they made the identical grave mistake of sending Covid patients to care homes in March/April 2020.

James O’Brien used to have on as a guest the brilliant statistician from the FT to talk about the UK having a stand out excess deaths figure. But for the last 9 months the invites have dried up.

Almost everyone, whether they be a hack, scientist or know it all celeb has a pandemic bias. One way or another. Cherry picking numbers that fit around their conclusion, slyly avoiding metrics which now go against their conclusion.

There's that "we" again!

Forgetting for one minute those that make a conscious decision not to get vaccinated, there are the millions who either can't have the vaccine or for who the efficacy is unknown!

They are the ones that need some idea as to how they will be protected going forward.

Millions? Are you sure about that? Surely they must be a small subset of the vulnerable group, who were otherwise prioritised. Does anyone have any reliable figures, with sources?

Ever since July 19th (which is now looking like a great call due to the added protection ) some posters on here have been pointing at European countries and saying we are much worse off than them every time our cases go up.

Worst death rate in Europe gets trotted out, when we are not in the top 10.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1104645/covid19-testing-rate-select-countries-worldwide/

Look at our testing rate, it’s the highest in the world.

In pure numbers Germany have done 88 million tests in total - we have done 384,287.490 tests in total - why do you think we find more cases?

They are looking to avoid the total collapse of the National Health Service. Have you not been listening AT ALL? Until we get to a point where we can manage the virus and keep the NHS on it’s free et without lockdowns then we are going to be stuck in this cycle. It’s really not that difficult.

Hopefully Rishi found some buyers then

This from Zoe, talks about half a million, but then says the figure is probably considerably greater...

https://covid.joinzoe.com/post/vaccines-and-the-immunosuppressed

There are also a quarter of a million people currently living with blood cancer, others with sickle cell and HIV - The numbers soon add up...

The ONS had 3.7 million being CEV, of which, for many there is limited data on efficacy of vaccines...

I had stayed away from this thread, as there were certain posters, with one in particular, who seemed to have no consideration for others concerns or feelings.

The thread had appeared to have mellowed, hence I jumped back in, however, I note since the possible talk of further restrictions the level of sarcasm seems to have gone off the scale again!

It's a real shame we can't all play nicely...

Sadly there are a few here with their own agenda, if you just check in from time to time and look through you will see the pattern and the same names.

There's several people, including you, who come in here often with the "agenda" (opinion) that there should be harsh measures, lockdowns etc. and there are several people who come in here with the "agenda" (opinion) that there currently shouldnt be any of that. It is a divisive subject.

Don’t worry, you will still get the lockdown you crave

I'd suggest you read the last 3 lines of my post on here, #20163, no one " craves " a lockdown...joined up thinking and clarity and leadership would be preferable.

Indeed it is, but civility isn't difficult whilst discussing!

Based on what I've seen from lurking the web for 21 years... it appears to be a bit difficult.

Especially in such a high-stake subject. Half are afraid of dying and half are afraid of stop living.

To give you an indication of the millions who cannot comply with either vax taking or face covering advice, millions of these lanyards have been sold, so it must be true.

That's rather answering my point. I certainly get the impression that lots of lockdown supporters, like yourself, want to lock down now and have no plans ever to come out. There are no plans to increase the capacity of the NHS, we already have the vaccine so there is no point planning on another one, all we can do is sit and wait until it all goes away. It isn't good enough.

I'll ask the question a different way. If we go into lockdown, what are the plans and forecasts for coming out?

That's incredibly insensitive of you to drag genuinely vulnerable people into the equation of those that elect not to have the vaccine or use lanyards against the spirit of their origin - further proves my point that the two sides on this subject will never meet with any level of good grace.

Shame, as it's such an important subject for all to be able to engage in.
