I did to land a 19k p.a role with a company car and holiday home in marbella..

I was only there 6 months...but had a quality time on a free holiday!

Awaits patronising answer from HB&B or Dwayne........I really would need to lie, to get such a low job / overqualified / I'm loaded / look at me / blah blah blah.

Come on lads don't let us down.

I've never lied on a job application form, but have always tailored the way I present personal details to match the particular job.

That means never relying on a bog-standard-suits-all-circumstances CV.

Curiously, during the whole of my working career, no-one has ever actually asked to see any of the bits of paper that I claim to possess.

Haven't as of so far but to get to the next level - i would probably hav eto bend the truth about my current role - obviously i would have to go to another company - reckon i could get away with it - is it worth the risk if they do check?

For the P.a job. I actually lied about the address of the company had a reference sent to my old house and typed the reference in the office of my new job only to have it handed to me by my new boss 4 days later asking me if I wanted to hang it up on the wall because it was so good.

Yes, but to work in the transport industry all you need to demonstrate is that you hate car users, surely?

I certainly don't make any mention of my age on my CV and I am very dismissive of the first 25 years of my career too. IT is a very ageist industry as far as I can see and with a glut of 'IT Professionals' on the market you need to be economical.

I never lied on my CV properly but was a little economical with the truth as in I listed the modules I studied on a GNVQ course but failed to state which ones I passed and failed.

That said I lied my arse off at inteviews. A good gem was because employers are also interested in you as a person, I spun a whole yarn about how me and my mates pulled together to help another mate through a drug problem...This demonstrated that I was a team player and a well rounded individual.

I remember when I was working at Ericsson they were looking for programmers with 5 years 3G experience, when the technology had only been around about 3 years.

One guy remarked "I bet they find them".

I sometimes think that I'm putting myself at a dissadvantage by not lying on my CV.

It never ceases to amase me how many first class and 2.1 degrees people have, yet when I was at Uni less than half actually achieved it! Hmmm.

Like it has already been said though, no one ever checks and even if they do what are the consequences?

It really is down to conscience.

Not when I started. My then boss was of the opinion that the main purpose of the job was to cut bus services in order to encourage further growth in the British car industry, thereby helping the economy. Increasing car ownership was a sign of a flourishing nation.

I think that was fairly mainstream thinking at the time of the Callaghan government.
