In all seriousness, the players are all playing for the success of their livelihood and can be presumed to be extremely "fussed" about their performances in this match and every other match they play.

Whether they currently have necessary skills and confidence to bat against decent red ball exponents, on a bowler's wicket, is a better question...

Notts' top 5 batsmen managed a total of 96 runs in this match. Wells, Yardy, Nash, Machan, Cachopa, Wright, Brown and Jordan all deserve more chances in better conditions before being judged too harshly.

Yes, but we have the equal lowest batting points in Div 1 at the moment, so it's not JUST down to the wickets, as each team we play have had to use the same track.

By the looks of today, Sussex's Target seemed to to make it back to The Cricketers and still make happy hour.

That still looks on, I reckon the coach has its engine running and is round the back of the pavillion as we speak.

I'm not saying that our batsmen are all in great form but they have had to face some very bowler friendly conditions. The last two Championship games at Hove have seen exceptionally low scoring by all sides involved and now this at Trent Bridge...

Batting wasn't particularly clever last season, something those at the helm failed to address in the winter.

This, the 9th wicket partnership, is our best of the innings. And the ball is not 30 overs old. Our best partnership in the 1st innings was for the 7th wicket.

Let's look at the Championship season averages of our Top 6 - six matches in:

Yardy 11.5
Wells 20.5
Nash 14.2
Machan 46.6
Cachopa 15.7
Wright 31.9

Just 1 century between them...

We seem to be good at coaching bowlers, but incapable of getting the best out of our batsmen.

A disgrace really.

Do we have a batting coach at Sussex? This poor batting form seems to be an annual problem.

Ed Joyce broke Eoin Morgan's record for the highest innings score by an Irish player as he hit 229 not out against the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday.

Yardy, Wells, Nash and Cachopa have had disappointing starts to the season. They have not been helped by having to bat multiple times in extremely bowler friendly conditions.

I am a Sussex fan and will always be supportive of our players when it is humanly possible. Unlike the footballers they are not on ridiculous money and they all work hard at their games.

These two have now added 51. Our #9 and #10 are making it look easy. Just 162 more

Too bad the rest of the flids have been pony really.

Which just goes to show that all the evidence points to those who are saying that it's the wicket that's the problem here in the main, and not our players - when the ball gets older it becomes very benign. Shame the batsmen weren't able to hang around long enough to make the most of it :(
