Alas if he is able to help save them from relegation he will be worth that. Sorry state of football. I read that John Terry is on the verge ofn signing a £150k a week contract... :nono:

Prem gone crazy ! ..on another note did anyone see Joey Gudjohnson gone to B urnley for 150k .. just the sort of player we could have done with !

Gudjonsson seals Clarets switch

Gudjonsson already has experience of playing in England
Burnley have completed the signing of Iceland international midfielder Joey Gudjonsson, 26, from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar for a fee of £150,000.
The former Aston Villa, Wolves and Leicester player has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Meanwhile, Danish goalkeeper Brian Jensen has been put on the transfer list at his own request after losing his place to Mike Pollitt.

"If he wants to leave, I've no problem with that," said boss Steve Cotterill.

I think he said 'The money didn't even come into the decision'. I mean, seriously, why even say that? It's clearly a lie.

If there's no guaranteed place at Liverpool - fight for it. If you really want to go to West Ham - don't insist on an escape clause.

It's the transfer that in recent memory most clearly shows what money-grabbing twats Premiership players really are.

tbh, given the crazy increase of cash in the prem, this will become the norm pretty soon.

And who exactly have BHA signed ???

Are you happy that your hard earned money is lining Neill's pocket? Keeping him in Versace jeans and a new Bentley?

I just get the feeling I wouldn't be too happy paying such high prices to fill people's pockets. I may feel very differently should we ever flirt with the Premiership.

Agreed.

If I were Lucas Neill I'd have joined The Hammers.

Who cares about the money-grabbing? Is he a Liverpool fan joining WH for the extra dosh?
It's a profession.
You want players who couldn't care about money - go down the park and watch a pick-up or pub team then.

Bang on.

I can't believe people continually direct their outrage over the level of footballers' wages at the players themselves. It's not their fault they are offered so much money to play the game, and they would be complete and utter idiots to turn it down.

All professional footballers are mercenaries. It's the nature of the game. And the large majority of players have relatively short careers, with nothing by way of a trade or an education to fall back on when their playing days are over. It's only sensible that they cash in while they can.

The blame for the ridiculous level of their wages lies with the FA and the club owners and chairmen, not the players.

They're talking of bringing in wage caps and transfer caps in relation to turnover of the club.

So teams like Man U who turn over millions and millions would hardly have any restriction put on them whereas Wigan would be completely f***ed.

To be honest Jevs i think Curbishley has made some very good signings this window, Boa Morte is a great player and Davenport and Neill are exactly the players needed to shore up the defence, so good luck to you

Thanks m8....i think you're probably right about the signings. We're now in a division where you have to pay what it takes to get the player you want. I wouldn't be surprised if another bid goes in for Upson. If we have to pay £8-10 million to get him then so be it.
Our new owners have said that they want us to be up with the top 3 in the next few years.....quite mind blowing stuff considdering we've always played second fiddle to most other London clubs
