But West ham are in a corner and are desperate and Neill knew that i expect. Having said that it isn't Lucas Neill's fault West Ham ofered him £60k a week is it? If it is on offer who wouldn't take it?

Noone is saying it is Neill's fault- the fault lies with West Ham.

I dont begrudge Neill the money, but I think he is a mercenary- most players would love to give the Champions League a go and challenge for honours, instead he's going to a club that may well be relegated.

And by all accounts he has insisted on an escape clause so he isn't that bothered/confident if they stay up or not it seems!

Well, he's sorted then.

I can see why clubs are gambling with the increased TV money on offer next year, but you have to be slightly prudent as well (remember Leeds?), particularly given as he's not likely to make a SIGNIFICANT difference to their team and wouldnt be worth much in terms of re-sale value.

He is 28 so if they do go down they might recoup a fair amount of what they got him for, but it seems crazy they allowed him an escape clause weren't the alarm bels ringing?!

It's funny, they were run badly before, but now it seems the new guy isn't really any more competent, just that he has more money.

To be honest mate its like a kid with a new toy he is pumping dough in left, right and centre at the moment but will he be doing the same in say 18 months time if things aren't going to plan? Look at Al Fayed at Fulham he flatly refuses to bankroll the club anymore, they have to generate their own money for everything.
