The Kingswest and the new Hove Town Hall - disgusting 60’s architecture. Powerful council heads of planning in the post was era favoured a clean sweep, it all looked great on paper. Luckily for us, Ken Fines emerged to stop the rout before all was lost.

I never went to that cinema but on car journeys as a nipper with my Dad, I remember seeing the Vogue directly in line as we drove down Bear Road. Before the gyratory obviously.

I went to Saturday morning pictures there.

Thanks, I’d never heard of that school before.

What a short life from construction to demolition.

I assume the site is now the 1970-ish housing development Surrenden Park (terraces, in exactly the same style as Martlets, Upper Drive, Hove).

The Hippodrome from mybrightonandhove.org.uk site.
It's a shame we look like losing this lovely old theatre, my parents used to take me to the panto there every year and we also went to several summer variety shows. If you look at the website you can read accounts from people of the many world famous artists and acts who appeared there over the years, it's a pretty impressive list.

I went to Saturday morning pictures there.

I did the same at the Odeon Kingswest in the mid 70’s. Hundreds of kids terrorising the staff, who wore a hideous purple acrylic uniform.

Whilst parents got peace shopping at Wades, Werff, Solitaire, Vokins etc.

The one on Lewes Road was the Vogue wasn’t. Specialised in saucy films for a while.

And strippers on Thursday. I was warned never to sit in the front row.

This thread is about lost buildings.

The Hungry Years hasn't been lost, it is still a pub, it's just got a different name.
Likewise with the Hanningtons building, it's still there, it's simply been converted into lots of small shops.

This art deco building on Kingsway, Hove designed in 1928 for the motor trade and used by Caffyns was demolished around 2006....

Nearly! Saxon Court is a late 80’s design. The Vega flats are on the beautiful Caffyn’s Garage site.

Yes, I went there a few times with some lads in my class at junior school, I preferred going to The Vougue as I only lived up the road.
