But there is meant to be a zero tariff trade deal in place!

Is there?

I just looked it up:

The following products shall be considered as originating in the other Party:

products wholly obtained in the EU or the UK, e.g., live animals born and raised, plants and vegetable products grown or harvested;
products produced in the EU or the UK exclusively from originating materials;
products produced in the EU or the UK incorporating non-originating materials provided they satisfy the requirements of the product-specific rules of origin.

This means there will be no tariffs or quotas on the movement of goods between the UK and the EU when the above indicated restrictive rules of origin apply and the formal requirements to prove goods origin are met.

So....is someone contravening the arrangement? If it's the foreigners surely Johnson will soon jolly well sort it all out?

It's absolutely hilarious that Frosty the No man has scuttled off now rather than admit that his deal was brilliant for NI but crap for the Unionists and the UK. He's another one of the ****wits to run off rather than take responsibility for their ignorant pipe dreams and empty promises.

And the sooner our corrupt, lazy and incompetent PM does the same, for exactly the same reasons, the better.

If only we belonged to some kind of trading bloc that protected our trading agreements and looked out for it’s members.

Agreed.

What pi55e5 me off about all this is that whenever one of these so-called 'leaders' runs into a problem, they walk away. Usually with some lame excuse or other, rather than the real reason: "it's too hard and I am not up to it".

I would guess that the vast majority of people on this board have had to deal with work problems that initially seem insurmountable. As an electronic engineer this happened regularly to me; it was the nature of the job. But I and every one else in the real world has to stick at it until the problems are resolved. We don't have the luxury of just handing in the towel and passing the problems on to someone else.

It is apparent from many threads that we normal people deal with life as it comes, often, as has been seen, with adverse effects to mental and emotional health.

Politicians seek power, that is why they are politicians. But a lot of them cannot handle it. And when they think they can, as in their responses to the current pandemic, they prove that they aren't up to it anyway.

So my message to these bu99ers is: if you think you are good enough to lead, show us you are and do not damn well give up. And if you aren't we'll tell you and get rid of you.

Mini-rant over. Until next time.

It is a zero tariff agreement. See HWT's post above for more detailed wording. Yes. it is restrictive but it is, nevertheless, in place.

A restrictive zero tariff agreement :lolol::lolol:

That’s good.

Is that like being a bit pregnant?

It was pointed out on twitter that Truss scores highly on Tory approval ratings ATM, Johnson scoring quite badly currently of course. What a wonderful gift of the" Impossible Job " from Johnson to Truss... just when she was " On manoeuvres " .... time for the poisoned chalice :lolol:

You are deliberately being obtuse because you said there was no zero tariff agreement. There is a zero tariff agreement. As HWT's post explains in detail, for items that meet the criteria there is zero tariff applied. Your little joke doesn't change that fact.

Tactics.

That job is a death sentence. It’s impossible to keep the promises of the Brexiteers. She’s been hung out to dry.

It should put paid to her leadership ambitions as she’ll surely make a car crash out of this new role.

That’s one down for Johnson. Just Dishy, Gove and Hunt to sink.

You are confused.

With a zero tariff agreements, there are zero tariffs. We have some tariffs. Some as opposed to Zero.
