Are you seriously asking what anniversaries have got to with incoming new years?
You see the dotted line that I typed below my response to your original question? I put those there for you to use in your expected sanctimonious, condescending next comment. You did not disappoint.

I can’t really be bothered with fireworks, nothing about them makes me go “oh wow amazing”, why people stare at them and want to stand in the cold and sometimes rain to see them is beyond my comprehension.

Animals hate them, it’s time to stop wasting money on them.
I agree, animals are a complete waste of money.

The OP compared the London NYE display with the Sydney one.

The London display was in part, about Windrush, inclusivity and welcoming everyone. A good thing I think.

Compare that with this interview the recently departed John Pilger made in 2013, interviewing ordinary Australians on Australia Day.

Warning: some breathtaking opinions. Especially around the 2 minute mark. 'The aboriginals want to live in shocking conditions'.

Unless you are a rabid Tory of course, then it's woke nonsense.

According to some, the last thing this proud nation that proceeded the vikings, Romans, vandals (basically anyone that could steer a boat to end up on these shores and kick the arse of the stupid inhabitants) and french/german/Greek etc royal family integration/'invasion' needs is immigrants apparently. The pure British blood runs strong according to some....

We are all immigrants, but some think they should be the last, with the door slammed shut behind them.

I thought the dotted line was where you had neglected to mention the most woke aspect of all.....commemorating the coronation!

Why do you want to challenge him? There are far more important things to worry about.
Did I say I was….it was an observation of what I’ve seen…and a reply to a post that I thought didn’t make sense.
Still I see you’ve waded in with your own politics …how dare anyone else…..who are of course immediately branded Tory 🤦‍♂️….and we see all the predictable responses
We’ll agree there are far more important things to ‘worry’ about, but then should we never say anything just in case there’s something else that’s more important 🤔

Anyway all the best for 2024 Harry….i’m out the door as I’m working

Bath, Somerset.
We watched them - technically brilliant, true, but couldn't help feeling that it was a little OTT. After a few minutes, the 'Wow' factor was actually a little lost; it was a bit too much. Maybe they were trying too hard?

Oh, and we also said "Oooh, some of these 'messages' will upset the free-speech loving Right", as this thread has sadly proved

Sanctimonious or not, year ends are nothing but reflection and projection…..that’s why he mentioned a bunch of key anniversaries during the celebration.

I hope you know you've sent me down a proper rabbit hole.

I never knew the Vandals came to Britain, so I googled them, only to find they were exiled here, along with the Burgundians, who I hadn't even heard of.

'In 278, Zosimus reported that emperor Probus had defeated the Vandals and Burgundians near a river (sometimes proposed to be the Lech, and sent many of them to Britain'.

Bloody burgundians, worst of the lot! What did they do for us eh?

Sounds like we were the Australia of that time
