The dull part of the south coast
Just watched the London display and I have to say, after also seeing the Sydney display, London shouldn't bother.

Sydneys effort was had a proper party atmosphere with great visuals and music. Hats off to our Aussie cousins.

The London effort looked and sounded mess, was all over the place and to be honest felt like a London Mayor promotional campaign.

It should be credited to the good people of London and the country.

Waste of the millions spent
Should’ve got the Marseille ultras in then.

Whilst I agree that the London event had heavy overtones of Sadiq Khan and political correctness, I thought the pyro/light show and accompanying music was way, way better than Sydney’s generic (far too spread out) aerial bombardment and accompanying dull one track party tune.

Takes all sorts I guess.

Very true ….for me I normally watch the display and think wish I was there and say to my self “must get there next year”….last nights didn’t move me at all

Just far enough away from LDC
It celebrated 75yrs of nhs, empire windrush, 10yrs of same sex marriage, covered how london is a welcoming city, had great music, top drone action and solid fireworks display.

Anybody complaining about the mayor badging it as his event obviously missed the 8yrs of mayor johnson and his appropriating everything as his idea, gift and fiefdom

This - poor by the mayor, but then a lot is IMO.

Overall didn’t think it was too bad firework and display wise….

Have to say I always enjoy it and went in 2020.

What was the political correctness?

What was the political correctness?
Unnecessary commentary around same sex marriage, diversity, the NHS, Windrush generation. None of it offensive, but what the hell had to do with NYE I do not know?

I've just watched the Sydney ones.

There were lots of big fireworks, spread across a far larger area than the London display, but the music and theming was rubbish.

That dreary "It's new years eve again" song played on a loop for a full 5 minutes, then nothing but bang bang bang for another 10?

Those who do not support the politics of kindness and inclusion may have complaints about the London display but, that aside, it was a much more engrossing show.
This whole thread seems to be nothing more than right of centre knee-jerk antipathy toward a left of centre Mayor.

Incidentally, those Boris bikes were introduced by, er, Ken Livingstone. And the 'London Mayor' branding over everything from the Olympic Games down was started by....Johnson! Am I offended? No. Johnson's welcome to London rolling video continued on an electronic billboard at Stratford years after he ceased to me mayor. Am I bovvered? No.

And clunky firework branding is not going to persuade anyone with a brain to vote conservative. Bad luck, chaps :lolol:

Are you seriously asking what anniversaries have got to with incoming new years?

Hardly (yeah and I know u r exaggerating)….be more the case if one dared challenge Khan and any of his wokeness
Why do you want to challenge him? There are far more important things to worry about.

Well said. Though I would like to point out that I managed to lower the tone - quite the achievement considering the Tory jabbering preceeding it. Got the new year off to a great start!

I just knew the word “woke” would appear as a perjorative on page one of this thread and I was not disappointed
