What is it with politicians in this country? Why don't they look out for people that genuinely need looking out for? Another scum politician helping the rich get richer. Whilst there is people out there who can't afford a loaf of bread now that it's almost double in price.

Tories, and anyone who votes for them are filth. You're disgusting, as long as your bank account and investment is looked after, and your scenic country view goes undisturbed, fkuc the rest of us, you know the ones who keep the economy moving, the ones who had to actually go to work during covid, whilst you lot were sat indoors drinking wine, moaning there wasn't anything good to watch on tele. We're the ones that get shat on yet again. You make me sick!

Clueless - one for ignore

So the 14 million people who voted Tory at the last election match that description do they? There are 14 million voters sat in their mansions, or sliding down piles of money Scrooge McDuck style?

Or are there 13.99m idiots, with the billionaires making up the rest?

I don’t see how this blanket “everyone who does the thing I don’t like is an idiot” thing can ever, ever work. Labour tried with it Momentum and achieved some of their worst election results ever.

The sooner people stop demonising Tory voters, and attempt to win hearts and minds, rather than belittling them, the better hope we have of getting rid of this abominable government.

I have already decided I’ll be voting anything but Conservative next time out, but when people deliver rants of this kind on here, or in a pub, or at the football, I immediately turn off to their cause.

Let's be honest, the last election was about Brexit and the false promises made persuaded large amounts to vote for a party that promised it would deliver rather than one that appeared to be on the fence.

Elections aren't won by Tory members or Tory supporters just as the Labour members and Labour supporters won't win it. It's down to the voters in the middle who can and do change their minds. It's that middle sector that either party needs to win over. So no, there aren't 14m people sitting in their mansions. However, surely you can admit that tendency of the Tories is to support the rich in the first instance. Look at the pandemic and how Tory friends were able to jump the queue. Look at the recent energy measures, borrow and get you, me and future generations to pay it back rather than use some of the excess profit that energy companies are making. This borrowing is going straight into the profit column of the energy generators (one of which Truss used to work for).

Given the Corbyn alternative, maybe they weren’t.

Boils down to credible alternatives.

Personal preference I guess [emoji2]
Corbyn was credible. This nation of idiots just loves being abused and lied to. That's the problem.

Come to think of it, that dog off BTG was more credible than the Tory leaders over the last 12 years. They have all been a total disaster for this country.

This. Can't stand these 'ranty' people who try and force their opinions down your throat. Absolute tossers.

There needs to be a decent opposition / alternative. The thought of Corbyn in power last time had me voting Conservative. Not too impressed with SIR Starmer (far from working class) but it's ABC for me at the moment (Anything But Conservative).

And I'm working class I guess. Certainly blue collar and work with my hands. Though the line between working class and middle class has got blurry over the last 20-30 years imo.

It depends what you mean by working class. He was certainly born working class, and through education and determination he carved out an excellent career. This is exactly the sort of path that Blaire supporters like me would applaud.

If you prefer working class people to Know Their Place, of course Starmer is a wrong-un for transcending his class.....

"Starmer was born in Southwark, London, on 2 September 1962. He grew up in the small town of Oxted in Surrey. He was the second of the four children of Josephine (née Baker), a nurse, and Rodney Starmer, a toolmaker. His mother had Still's disease. His parents were Labour Party supporters, and named him after the party's first parliamentary leader, Keir Hardie. He passed the 11-plus examination and gained entry to Reigate Grammar School, then a voluntary aided selective grammar school"

Well, yes, nowadays you've got university-educated "middle class" people living precariously on zero-hours contracts with no chance of ever getting on the property ladder.

Majorities are very often wrong, this was the country remember that voted for a dog to win Britain's Got Talent.

Is it any surprise that the dog won? Brits are amongst the worst idlers in the world, lacking skills, application and graft. Seems to be a mindset or attitude thing.

Oh. I'm not a great follower of politics as I think they're all pretty much a bunch of power hungry tossers. Just some slightly more than others so pretty dissolutioed with the lot. But I am sure I read that he came from money? Obviously I need to fact check it. If indeed he is a working class made good, then I do applaud that fully. For is that not what we all want for ourselves?

Thanks for pointing it out HWT and I'll check it out where I got my info from.

The Tories have done a good job convincing the public that they are the party of the people whilst Labour represent the woke, metropolitan, liberal elite. You've got to admire the chutzpah.

Imagine suggesting that the likes of Starmer and Rayner are out of touch when you've got Ress-Mogg sitting next to you.

And yet Boris Johnson (like Donald Trump in the US) is lauded as a "man of the people" despite his wealthy and privileged background. It's all shenanigans...

I was going to post almost exactly the same as HWT, until I saw that he had already done it!

Oh I agree fully. As I said before, I was very much against Corbyn and his flip flop policies and the vested interests around him. The Tories have done nothing but shaft us.

But then again, the whole economy is going to shit in a handbasket after years of overspending short sighted Govts.

I haven't seen a news program for years and years. I never read newspapers (or online) unless they're linked on NSC related to BHAFC. I dislike journos almost as much as politicians. I just try and keep away from the 'crap' and get on with life. But it's getting harder and harder to do.

The Truss / Kwarteng growth mini-budget.

Headlines will be added here...

Will it grow anything other than the national debt?

From October, the Energy Price Guarantee will limit the price customers can be charged for energy.
This means the typical household will now likely pay £2,500 for their annual energy use, a £1,000 saving.

The Energy Bill Relief Scheme will help to cut energy prices for businesses, charities and public sector organisations, such as schools and hospitals.
The scheme will run for 6 months and cover energy used from 1 October 2022 to 31 March 2023.

Total cost of energy package for 6 months from October will be approximately £60 billion.

Today we're setting out our ambitious aim to achieve a trend growth rate of 2.5% for the UK economy.
We’ve done it before, we can do it again.
Economic growth means more jobs, higher wages, and more money for schools & the National Health Service.

New legislation to reform planning permission for major infrastructure projects.
This will reduce unnecessary bureaucracy in the system and help drive growth for the UK economy.
Over 100 sites have already been identified.

Changes are being made to Universal Credit to encourage more people into work. This means more people who receive this benefit will have to:
-meet regularly with their work coach
-Take steps to increase their earnings
-Face benefits reductions if commitments aren't met

The government has agreement in principle with 38 areas to establish tax-cutting Investment Zones which will drive growth & unlock housing development.
Work will also begin with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to agree zones in these locations.

The planned Corporation Tax increase to 25% has been cancelled.
The rate will stay at 19%, the lowest in the G20. This will support business investment and help economic growth.

To support businesses to invest and grow, the Annual Investment Allowance will be permanently set at its highest ever level of £1 million from 1 April 2023.
This will give 100% tax relief to businesses on their plant and machinery investments up to the level of £1 million.

The Company Share Option Plan (CSOP) limit allows businesses to offer employees share options worth up to £30,000.
Now we’re doubling that to £60,000.
This will encourage employers to offer more shares to their employees, so everyone can share in the success.

We can also simplify the IR35 rules – and we will. In practice, reforms to off-payroll working have added unnecessary complexity and cost for many businesses.
So, as promised by My RHF the Prime Minister, we will repeal the 2017 and 2021 reforms.

The government will introduce a modern, digital, VAT-free shopping scheme for international tourists.
This will support high streets, shopping centres and airports, creating jobs in the retail and tourism sectors.

Alcohol duty will be frozen from February 2023.
This is a tax cut worth £600 million & will save the consumer 7p on a pint of beer, 4p on a pint of cider, 38p on a bottle of wine, & £1.35 on a bottle of spirits.
This will also help the hospitality industry bounce back.

From 6th November the government is cutting National Insurance by 1.25 percentage points and cancelling the Health & Social Care Levy.
This will:
- Reduce the tax on jobs
- Let families keep more of what they earn
- Support economic growth

We’re cutting Stamp Duty Land Tax which will help more people to move, promote residential investment and boost first-time ownership.
All alongside our housing supply reforms in today’s Growth Plan.
First time buyers currently pay no stamp duty on the first £300,000. We’re increasing that threshold as well, to £425,000. And we’re going to increase the value of the property on which first time buyers can claim relief, from £500,000 to £625,000.

From April 2023 the basic rate of Income Tax will be cut from 20p to 19p, helping working families keep more of their hard-earned cash.
We will also abolish the 45p additional rate completely to attract global talent and incentivise enterprise.

On the one hand you say you haven't seen a news programme for years and you admit that you were misinformed about Keir Starmer's origins. Where did your 'information' come from? And then you say you were against Corbyn - but based on what?

I've often thought that people shouldn't be allowed to vote unless they pass some test of basic understanding of the issues. Brexit strengthened that conviction and nothing you have written would change my mind.
