As you said paraphrased and taken out of context in a longer interview.
She is entitled to her opinion. Don't judge all people in the supporter's club with Liz's views but don't have a go at Liz when she doesn't have a right of reply.

Get her on the phone in to have a proper debate and put your questions to her.

(I know she does)

I don't know. If I send her anything by email I send it via Sarah.

They may be irrelevant to you but they do the litter after the match and they turned out in force to deliver Seagulls Party leaflets last August for Lord B.

I collected litter quite a few times. I'm not a member of the supporters' club.

Also delivered leaflets many times, such as for the Falmer referendum (God, that was years ago now) and drove around Brighton in a van with a PA system on the roof allowing me to preach the gospel of Saint Martin of Perry. But I wasn't a member of the supporters' club.

Oh come on Al...get a reality check.

What influence have we had on the running of this club? Zilch.

What do you want? A vote on the board?

The fact is we have a pretty responsive management who engage with us, listen to us and sometimes act on our ideas. Much more so than other clubs. Not controversial, I know, but nevertheless true.

Yorkie I just cannot agree with you that Dave or anyone else has taken Liz's comments out of context. The essence of what she said is accurately stated on this thread and were;

A) Don't want Albion in the Premiership
B)Don't want a foreign owner
C) Foreign owners destroy the family/community feel of clubs
D)Don't want Leon Kight back
E) Dick Knight is my all time Albion hero

All reasonable comments by an ace worker for the club.

Not really what she said though was it. She said she would doubt she would see us in the Premiership in her time. That is QUITE different to what you are saying. She clearly wouldnt want the club to sell out it's soul something most of us agree with. That isn't to say she doesn't WANT the Albion in the prem.

OK Bozza, you've been trying to provoke a reaction from me in a couple of threads, so here it is!

The following comments sum up how I feel and I can see where Liz is coming from:

Dougdeep: “ I think she has a point, the Prem has ruined English football”

Bathseagull (in another thread) “Re Dean Wilkins addressing the travelling fans yesterday: “imagine a prem manager doing something like that? No chance – another example of how great it is to support a club you can actually feel a connection to”

Younger fans wouldn’t be expected to appreciate what it was like before the Premiership came about. Sadly it has accelerated the big clubs getting richer and is prompting the decline of the smaller clubs, which attract local support – people who go because of that fact, not because they feel the need to latch onto a club because it is fashionable or successful. Media exposure compounds this.

I accept that there are many people who choose to support a Premiership team because they want to see the highest standard of football and this will account for the many fans who support teams with which they have no connection e.g Manchester United supporters from all ends of the country and, latterly, Chelsea “fans” who have sprung up from nowhere since their success! Fortunately there is a core of passionate, diehard supporters who do not drift away when their team is not enjoying success or change their allegiance because of it.

I don’t and never have felt the need to latch onto success, but that does NOT mean that I don’t want it for the Albion – of course I do. However, no matter how attractive the football in the Premiership might be I would, personally, be sorry to lose the atmosphere and the ups and downs of being a supporter of a club that has support from those who have not followed the glamour trail. Splendid as grounds such as Old Trafford might be and the “entertainment” – if that’s what watching football is all about (?) then in that respect, it’s more attractive. However, sadly, the bigger a club gets, the more impersonal it becomes. That, together with the inevitable plastic fans and prima donna players would spoil the much of the enjoyment for me.

Yes, it would be great to see the Albion achieve success and reach the Premiership and I would, of course, still watch them (assuming I could still afford the higher cost) but much of what I enjoy in supporting a “smaller” club would be lost.

The fact that the Premiership is not an even playing field, with only about four clubs dominating, has made it even more unpalatable, but that is another story…………

Spot. On.

No way. That isn't whats being said at all. Dick Knight is a legend, and if someone with megabucks came along of course we'd bite his hand off. I hope to see Brighton play prem football, of course I do.. its just it some ways it would be a shame to lose a certain amout of intimacy with the club that our supporters currently have.. does that make sense?

I don't think DTG misquoted the fair Liz. She said quite clearly that she does not want the Albion in the Premiership because that would ruin us as we would lose the community nature of the club. She also said that we should never have a foriegn Chairman or takeover even if they had loads of dosh as that is what has ruined football.

She also said she would not come to another match if we resigned a certain Leon Knight.

More on Harty's phone in I suspect

sign him up!!!!

Sorry to disagree but i don't think she did mention "in her lifetime." Hawsey said that. Let's not fall out though. I agree I would not want us to sell our soul to a devil but if it means premiership footie........

Humbly apolgise if Liz did say that but I cannot recall it from hearing the interview

Yes and it will be lost once Falmer is built - a lot of us know each other as we are in it together marching and protesting for Falmer.

Once construction starts and we then move there will be nothing to shout about bar the football.

Liz Costa's most stupid comment ever was to suggest that the people who stopped the Brighton v York game in 1995/96 were NOT Albion fans.

:dunce:

I hope thats not true:rolleyes:
