White, Tau and MacAllister potentially 60 million plus worth of talent that will never play for us.

Doesn't make much sense. They have four CBs rotating in two places. Why buy a fifth. Nonsense probably made up by some agent or the paper itself.

Would like him to have an opportunity with us next season rather than shipped out straight away.

.
Because they're not happy with the other three that aren't VVD? But yes, probably just newspaper talk.

So would most of us, I think. Won't stop the rumours and discussions though.

This is the sort of stuff 'we've' been waiting for isn't it?

Acquire cheap, sell for huge profit - so its a win win, keep a quality player or bank the cash.

IF we then become more established in the top flight with our league positions gradually getting better and better with these ins and outs this business model will help the club reach self sufficiency sooner rather than later.

Big money for a player who doesn’t figure for us, in a position we are well covered in, would be superb business. We have to generate money from somewhere
The money will come from the players at the top of their valuation, most definitely not those with most of their valuation ahead of them.

That's the very definition of 'short termism', we all know that does not apply to Mr Bloom.

Agree on your points on small club mentality , but there’s an argument for making an exception when it comes to centre backs.
We have more high quality than we probably need. It’s worth cashing in on one of them to reinforce elsewhere IF the money is right. Alternative could be one of them ends up winding their contract down.

That one centre half we cash in on may well be Shane Duffy.......probably off in January for 10 - 15 million:down:???

I can't see him going in January, that's just asking for trouble, for no apparent reason.

Your £10m - £15m, can easily be offset by league positioning, which would be seriously at risk by an injury or two.

True enough but we have a glut of centre halves atm and Burns can always play there anyway as well. There must be clubs monitoring Dufffys position and if he wanted first team football and they needed a dependable ball winner (in the air) I could see them putting in an offer. We all know transfer figures are inflated in January and we may just be tempted to part at 20 million if we were playing well and relatively injury free. Having said that I agree he will probably stay for the rest of the season.

I think the last time was March 1985.

Yes I'm sure it was 1985, and fairly sure it was March although it could have been April.

So basically the spring of 1985...

...Yep, the Spring of '85 was the last time the Albion...

....didn't have a glut of centre halves. :rave: :lolol: :lolol: :rave:

Me too.

I think he’ll go next summer though as a replacement for Tarkowski who’ll be off to Everton to replace the very week Keane or someone similar in a top six team. I think we could get up to £30m for Duffy if Burnley rinse a top team for £50m+.

This is an interesting thread - but can a mod please remove the £ sign from the thread title? It causes Cloudflow to block access to the thread, and I'm getting fed up having to manually delete it from the URL every time I try and look in here.

We have no reason to sell him. We won't sell him. We won't sell anyone from our academy that we don't want to sell.

Tony wants to turn us into a top 10 club. He doesn't come out with bollocks marketing statements ... he means it.

We're never going to get there if we're dropping our knickers at the first opportunity when a big club comes calling for our academy players. It would defeat the entire object of all the effort he's put in with the academy

I've no idea what Cloudflow is but if it can't cope with perfectly legitimate, everyday characters then I don't see why NSC should have to make compromises to accommodate it.
