Littlehampton - what is it like for a family day out?

Lived there for nearly 40 years, best thing i done was leave 8 years ago. That said for a day out i would agree with most of the positive comments above.

Littlehampton is fine for young families and people who just want to chill by the sea without loadsa pubs/bars.
i moved here 3 years ago from Brighton and as much as i love brighton beach Littlehampton is a lot more Family Friendly

Don't stop at the river. Take the little harbour ferry across to the other side and explore West Beach. As other posters have commented its the quieter of the two, when the tide retreats there are lovely sandy beaches and the back of the beach has really nice dunes that back onto the golf course. The west beach cafe at the car parkby the river is now under the same ownership as the striking metal one that has one various design awards on east beach seafront - the food is really nice in both - pricey but a massive step up from your usual seafront fare.

The negative comments on the town are largely unwarranted...and I should know as I've lived here for the last 13 years.

Oh - and if you fancy a BBQ instead there is a designated BBQ area on the east (main) beach seafront with permanent BBQ's and hot bins were you can dump the disposable types after.

The STOP comment was more about not following in down into the town!

I do not particularly like Littlehampton as I do not think that it has a lot going for it and generally the town centre has nothing going for it. If I was going shopping I would chose Worthing over Littlehampton but what appears to be the problem area is the town centre that has the residents of nearby Wick swanning about. Again the residents of Wick will be both good and bad but like all areas the bad get the publicity over the good.

Which is why EVERYONE is saying 'don't bother going into town', but the beach and amenities are plenty good enough.

Which King was it said Bugger Bognor, I think it is debatable as to which is worse Bognor or Llittlehamton as a town centre plus Bognor has mainly Pompey fans and possibly the worst Wetherspoons with the overspill onto the nearby green..

I'm about to go down to Cabopino Beach near Marbella. Lovely for the kids, hot and sunny and warm sea. Granted it is a bit of a treck from Sussex for the day though.

It must be about six or seven years ago now. I recall a reasonable beach, fish and chips and amusement arcades - all strong signs that chavs are going to be close. What else is there to do?

Seeing as you seem to have a mental age of under 10 you should love the play areas minature trains, peddalows and crabbing.

If you have kids is a good day out basically. As mentioned the ice cream place has to be visited and fish and chips good. Chuck in a long stretch of beach, nice green if you want a picnic etc. The look and sea centre is a new area done and is very respectable in terms of appearance etc. Got the small funfair with mini golf and the harvester also.
Go along anf you have pitch n putt, tennis, bowls and another mini golf and there is mewsbrooks to feed the parks, play park and a good miniature railway. So all in all good seaside day out!

Bognor's not good.
It doesn't have the ability to be two 'different' towns.

Town centre is shite,but Bognor is actually one town and two villages:Felpham and Middleton to the east and Aldwick and Craigweil to the west.
Both 'villages' are so different to Bognor you wouldn't know they are near each other!
Bognor beach is actually very good for youngsters especially when the tide is out.

I worked as a Tourist Information Board designer for Arun Council and my job was to go around and see the tourist spots. I would not recommend any bit of it as I could not see why anyone went there but to to throw stones at the tourist signs and dump rubbish everywhere.

If I remember correctly, the only thing of strong interest was the boat ride to Arundel. Sand dunes at Clymping. Good on a sunny day for youngsters.
