I read it was further down on the Falmer road outside what is now the petrol station and not up on the Warren road.

My dad, who was local, had at his previous address in Wimbkedon shared a garage with Errol Flynn as neither, a long time ago, could afford it on their own

I grew up in Seaford and there was always talk of a smugglers tunnel from Cuckmere Haven to Alfriston. Some said it went to the Smugglers Arms, (bit obvious) others said it came out at the church. Parsons were partial to a bit of duty free communion wine, I believe.

Warninglid aka Warninglight in mid Sussex was where the smugglers had a look out to signal to those that the 'coast was clear' of London bobbies for their importing

Sorry if I was a few yards out. That really alters the story, and I am sure that if you were looking out of a window in the Downs Hotel you would have seen it. Besides they actually lived up the road from the garage in a house named the Seahawk.

Errol Flynn's Mum got run over by a bubble car outside the Downs Hotel in Woodingdean

Not only run over but killed.
"Sadly Marelle Flynn died in 1966 after being knocked over by a bubble car while crossing Falmer Road to retrieve her dog"

The list below shows the most populous urban areas in the United Kingdom as defined by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), but as readily referenced at Citypopulation.de. The list includes all urban areas with a population in excess of 100,000 at the 2011 census.[3]

The population of Eastbourne in the 2011 census was 99,412!

There was a short spell in the late 70's when someone stored a collection of grumble mags at the bottom of St Nicholas' Church graveyard behind a tombstone next to the Ear, Nose and Throat hospital. As a 12, 13 year old at the time this was quite a find.

I am still awaiting confirmation regarding this little "fact" regarding Crowborough: If you were to fly at a constant altitude due east, taking off horizontally, from the first tee of Crowborough Beacon Golf Club, the next time you touched land would be in the Urals.

bored, i looked at this: its total bollocks. you get to the Westphalia region of Germany.

In the earliest days of printing, printers used to store their various sized letter blocks, punctuation and spaces in flat wooden cases, which formed a stacking tray of cases. The capital letters were stored in the cases at the top, the small letters at the bottom - hence upper case and lower case.

Many commonly used words phrases were made into one block, rather than have them constantly formed by the individual letters. These blocks were called 'clichés'.

My fathers cousin shared a flat with Joan armatradin. Not in the biblical sense! My god father was the late chris balderstone the England and Yorkshire cricketer, league footballer and international umpire. My grandmother was a soprano with the Doyle Carte opera company before the war.,

Spartans before battle would decorate themselves to look their best so if they died, they would look acceptable to the gods. A tradition continues throughout history by morticians

Admittedly this is a little known fact and totally useless but it is not local or about Sussex.

Interesting thread though.[emoji106]

England’s first casino opened at the Metropole Hotel, Brighton in 1962. Well, the first on land – an earlier casino-ship on the Thames got round gambling laws for a time.

The Jack the Ripper murders were never solved, however on the night before each murder the same man stayed overnight in the Cricketeers pub in The Lanes. The only 5 nights he ever stayed, there was a murder the next day

I would be interested to know where this fact was/is. Im a bit of an amatuer Ripperologist and I hadnt heard of this!
