List those 'big' clubs in order

A few years ago I would have been biased and put Wrexham higher but common sense now tells me that we are probably punching just a little above our weight.

Perhaps someone could do a World Top 10??

I think only Manchester United would get in that from the UK, possibly Celtic and Rangers would have a case.

Arsenal wouldn't get in because they haven't won the European Cup, Liverpool should be in a top ten of World Football because of their 4 European cups but when you look at their stadium and their crowds now they can't compete with the European elite.

I'm curious why so many people think that Newcastle and Sunderland are such big clubs?!?! Neither has much success at competition.

Let's have a look back in resent history at these GIANTS!

Now when was the last time Tottenham drew crowds that small? was not in the top flight? They have also won a shit load more then both of those clubs put together and yet a lot of you don't rate them.

Sunderland also loses half it's fan base when they are not playing well even if they are in the prem. Please don't confuse big stadiums with big clubs.

For me, the true definition of a 'big' club is how many fans would they attract if they were playing shit in division 2.

the likes of Tottenham, Everton, Man City etc are far bigger clubs that Newcastel ever will be.

You can't ban Arsenal from the list just because they cheated relegation once, about 80 years ago.
I seem to remember Spurs being found guilty of irregularities not so long ago of the sort that initially got Swindon relegated TWO divisions. And it didn't take them long to threaten the FA with all sorts of legal action to have the punishment set at only 6 points - which they then got cancelled anyway.

Anyway, it might be news to Manure fans but Arsenal are THE daddy of clubs in this country. They've consistently been in the top flight, won championships, cups and all sorts over pretty much the whole of the 20th Century. Man U were a nothing club until Matt Busby, and the same could be said of Liverpool who played second fiddle to Everton until the late sixties.

Chelsea were getting 7,000 in division 2 about 15 years ago - and have bumbled along in that division for a fairly significant length of time. And before Hoddle & Gullit, 12,000 at Stamford Bridge for top flight football was commonplace.

And I agree with Lammy re the NE clubs. Both have been massive in times gone by

My top 11 big clubs are:
1) Arsenal - persistent top flight, winning trophies and big crowds for pretty much the whole of the last century (and this)
2) Man U - can't argue with their gates for most of their existence, but they haven't won anything like what Arsenal have.
3) Liverpool - glorious 2 decades, with big crowds but probably never as well supported as my top two.
4) =Everton
=Spurs - have had successful periods where important trophies have been won, and both have big support which is not even particularly dormant through the lean times - unlike Newcastle, Chelsea or Sunderland

6) = Newcastle, Sunderland, Leeds, Man City - All have had halcyon days, all could fill a 50,000 stadium with a decent side, but my perception is that none have had a sustained period of dominance of longer than 6 or 7 years.

10)= West Ham, Sheffield Wednesday - commendable levels of support even when putting out crap sides in a crap division and both have won the odd trophy.
