Many moons ago whilst on leave from HM Forces, I got the video and some beer and planned a pleasant afternoon watching this master piece. I was at the time staying at my parents, and about ten minutes into the film the door bell rings, my mother answers the door and in walks the local Catholic priest ( he resembled Rasputin and always wore sandals regardless of the weather). As I dive for the remote he Say's ' Wonderful 'Life of Brian' .. my favourite. He the proceeds to 'do' all the lines of the film and drink my beer ... the bastard ... he couldn't see what the fuss was about ...

Careful now, you'll spoil some people's ideas of what religious people are REALLY LIKE. It would shatter this image they have of mindless morons with no sense of humour that walk around trying to ban things. I think this inability to distinguish between a few extremists and the vast majority brings comfort to a few sad cases.

As I recall, Life of Brian was very popular at my theological college (the DVD certainly sits on my shelf), and is actually used on a course there. And I asked for, and received, the Father Ted box set for Christmas this year.

Oh, and don't mention Father Ted. I mentioned it once but I think I got away with it.

'Who hit you ... Goliaths big brother' :lolol: :lolol:

I also found the ' get out of the bed with that welsh tart' most amusing.

or Brian'splay when his mother informs him that he's a Roman something along the lines of .

The program on before the film, about the making of it was very interesting. I had forgotten all the furore that it sparked at the time. Those religious bigots* were amazing - call themselves enlightened, their minds were so closed they should have pad-locks on them. They made themselves look ridiculous.

* Disclaimer : I do not mean that all religous people are

Among others, Pink Floyd helped fund this movie, after the yank production company pulled out last minute.

I wonder if they did one about Muhammad would it be viewed in a similar manner or be viewed as Islamophobic.

Dunno. Maybe you should write a screenplay and find out ???

You do realise that many religious groups protested against the film, regardless as to whether or not they had seen it? There were also strict laws against blasphemy in some US States, and the film had to be careful not to cross the line.

I thought it was George Harrison who put up the cash.

It would be comparable if it was done by people from a majority Muslim country. Although I imagine they'd be murdered.

Not quite the same, but have you watched Four Lions? Very funny. It was a while ago that i watched it, so may be wrong. But I recall that, like Life of Brian, it is not taking the piss out of the religion as such, but out of those that follow it (or object to it?) without any real understanding.

You’re correct. He set up the production company, funds came from Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull (Ian Anderson) too.

Led Zeppelin and Floyd also funded The Holy Grail.
