That’s why it sats this :

The cut-off point for such suspensions is the quarter-finals and beyond.

Cards are wiped at the QF stage so we’re fine if we make the semi.
Ah. I read that differently. So the slate is now wiped clean and the card count restarts with the QF?

That’s why I understood and have read……will try to find a link with unambiguous wording

Edit….here’s one

Post Quarter-Final: After the FA Cup quarter-final stage, a player’s yellow card tally is wiped clean. This ensures no player can miss the semi-finals or final through suspension.

It would make a lot more sense. I’ll also re-read it when I have finished my morning coffee….things are usually clearer for me then!

Sad for LD and his time out with injuries this season..JpVH has generally been imperious, but am absolutely chuffed for AW to regain fitness, get back in the team and then play so consistently well. Always liked him and long may he stay.

In the FA Cup, players need four yellow cards before being suspended providing they play for a team that enters the competition through the qualifying rounds or in the first round. Representatives of clubs that enter in the third round need only two bookings before receiving a suspension.

So a team can enter the first round and a player getting booked in that round, and the second round, is then in the same position as players who join in the third round. That's pretty stupid.

This is all as clear as mud. "Just like in all competitions, a player who receives two yellow cards in the same match will be sent off and will miss their team’s next FA Cup match." and "Unlike receiving two yellow cards, a straight red card can result in a player being suspended for another domestic competition."

So Lamptey wasn't banned for the game against Fulham? Yet he was

It happened in November

FH learnt from that?

There's a frequently occuring misunderstanding that we were defending well when Igor was playing in the team, because he had two decent games against Newcastle and Manchester City. In reality we were f***ed over in most of the games. After Bournemouth created a gazillion chances against us, Southampton caused us massive worries and Fulham shat on us 3-1, FH decided "no more Igor", until he came on against Leicester and gave away the equaliser through dribbling as the last man. He then was awful, like most of the team, in the 2-2 against Villa and then got injured against Arsenal.

We did not defend well during this time.

This is Igor this season:

Igor is not a footballer at our level. He is piss poor by Premier League standards. Blocking is nice but when a player is always either too passive or too out of position to make a tackle, interception or win a header, then you want a different defender. Hurzeler made the obvious decision to drop the non-PL defender and replace him with a past-his-peak-but-still-a-PL-baller Lewis Dunk as soon as he could. Just like virtually any manager would.

The obvious difference currently is that Van Hecke and Webster are two of the best performing defenders in the PL right now. A 33-year-old Dunk will not reach that level. Most likely he is done as a frequent starting eleven player.
That Hurz made the obvious and right call to pick others ahead of Igor, I see no reason why he wouldn't yet again go with the best players available (Webster & Van Hecke) even when Dunk returns.

Regardless of fitness and performances this season, we definitely need to either promote or sign a couple of defenders for next season,
Anyone in the U21s looking possible? The short bits of highlights don´t really show much.

No lack of promise among the U21 defenders, but they're very young, four or five years away from realistically starting a bunch of PL games.

I'm certain we will sign at least one, quite possibly two PL-ready or somewhat PL-ready defenders this summer. Igor is bad, Dunk will probably be a back-up for another two years and then he's finished at this level... and we're quite likely losing Van Hecke, I just struggle to see how he can remain under the radar. Imho he's top class and would be a good signing for literally any team.

If we go with one or two might also depend on how good Cashin is. If he's a better player than Igor, he could fill that backup LCB to Igor, but if not, we could see him on loan in a different top 5 league. Currently impossible to tell from the outside, and might depend on whether we go with four or five natural CBs in the squad.

Could look something like this:

Dunk & Webster staying, I have no doubts on this. Dunk as backup, Webster leading the team... but not unchallenged.
Van Hecke and Igor leaving. Unfortunately (in the case of JPVH) think this is much more likely than not.
Cashin staying; not sure at all but its not a bad idea to have 5 CBs.
Incoming: LCB in the 25-30 age range (Boscagli?) that we can keep around for a long while and a young but competitive RCB who can be excellent for 3-4 years and then move to Wrexham or something for £1bn or whatever a hefty sum is in a few years.

Has there been a tactical change since Websters been introduced or is he just a bit quicker or a bit of both?

Not a tactical change necessarily, but certainly a mental one. Dunk's last full game before injury was the 0-7 defeat to Nottingham Forest (then he had 45 mins vs Chelsea) and it's been widely documented that the players too that as a serious kick up the back side.

I'm sure there have been tweaks, but I suspect the 7-0 was the defining change initiator

I think the midfield has been more organised defensively since the Forest defeat, so the back 4 are less exposed. As well as being a bit quicker, Webster has always said he prefers playing on the left of the centre-back pairing and it really seems to suit him. Not so sure Lewis is as comfortable there.
