Not in the numbers that Pride does. The people who'd go to B'ton on the weekend of Pride wouldn't go there otherwise; and those that would go instead would have gone anyway - on a different weekend.

The impact of cancelling Pride at the moment would be millions of pounds, both direct - loss of hotel nights, food service sales, licenced trade sales; and indirect - people who earn money for overtime during Pride, work on security, stalls, etc have money they are then able to spend in the local economy.

It doesn't require a qualification in economics to realise this, just common sense.

Your certainty there is almost as inaccurate as your spelling and grammar.

Bullshit. How would you know living in Belfast? One hot weekend and the beaches are crammed packed all along the coast. The summer also bring in thousands of foreign students.Brighton is always busy in the summer and losing a gay advent won't make a scrap of difference.

I don't live in Belfast ???

How would I know - basic economic knowledge. One event brings tens of thousands of people with high disposable incomes to the city = lots and lots of cash spent. This income will not be replaced by standard holiday makers (who will go anyway - on other weekends). What will happen is that there will be a reduction in overall visitor numbers of tens of thousands, with serious knock on impacts on all of the tourist industry.

Could be Brighton, could be Manchester, could be Dublin - any event which brings tens of thousands of attendees creates money in the local economy. Political party conferences, large sporting events, Pride parades - it doesn't matter what.

that's a pathetic thing to put what happened in 1943 out of interest?

Because thats the year you appear to want to be living in.

But the thread is about Brighton and whether Brighton does or does'nt need gay pride, It's nothing to do with other towns and cities. And i take it as your such a supporter of it you did actually make the effort to come over for it yourself?

No, I didn't. I attended the Dublin one this year and one is enough per annum, really. The Dublin one which was estimated to have generated 8 million euros in economic benefit despite costing the council about 30,000 euros - only granted after a cost/benefit analysis which I'm sure you're used to working on the railways, as they're often used to decide subsidy viability.

Maybe it would be better if you just kept to enjoying what goes on in Dublin rather than try and lecture people of Brighton on what they should be doing in they're own city?

At no time have I lectured anyone. I have simply pointed out that it undoubtably brings large gains to the local economy which would need to be replaced or forfeited if it was cancelled, as you and your cohorts appear to want. You've not managed to provide a workable suggestion as to where that money is going to come from.

Been flicking back and forth to the laptop while getting ready to head out for the third time this weekend. And anyway, I don't see toying with bigots as being a waste of time, ever.

Brighton was a successful place long before pride and it will still be a successful place long after pride is finished.
