Leigh RMI - Leigh Genesis

Leigh RMI football club have started a new era after rebranding themselves as Leigh Genesis.

The club, who are moving to a new stadium, have also changed the colour of their playing kit from red to white and black.

Leigh were relegated from the Blue Square North last season and will be in the Unibond Premier next season.

Hmmm, I thought that must be some kind of commercial tie up, but seemingly not.

Sounds like a proper little set up they've got there, a bit of effort and you could easily see them making the football league.

Given that they have Wigan and Bolton Wanderers on their doorstep not to mention the two Merseyside and Manchester giants less than many Albion fans normal home drive away I wish them well but can't see them gaining much prosperity.

Take Wigan for instance, now a reasonably established Premier League team yet many football fans who live in the town support their rivals (The likes of Burnley, Blackdurn and Preston aren't that far either).

i think the stadium is more important to Leigh Rugby League who are applying for a franchise this summer - I don't think they'll get it unfortunately.

Alot like the Pirelli Stadium of Burton Albion, but that has three sides as terraces.

The stadium is being built primarily for Leigh Rugby League. The football club are just tenants.

The stadium has two large video displays [one inside for replays, etc, and one outside for advertising. They also have a third colour display for the actual clock and score information.

Its our biggest single contract this year.

Leigh Railway Mechanics Institute was one of my favourite football club names. Up there with West Allotment Celtic and Bevendean Barcelona.

I always liked the sound of Blyth Spartans and Billingham Synthonia...a more recent favourite is Newi Cefn Druids...that has a really pleasant ring to it, I imagine their supporters stood on the terraces looking like they would be more at home at Stonehenge on the summer solstice.
