Isn't it about time we recognised that Man U have a pretty sensational fanbase. And a huge proportion of thier season ticket holders come from within the Manchester region. Their season ticket prices in some areas of OT are lower than ours, they don't squeeze out their loyal fans. Teams like Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal etc could only dream of having that much local loyalty.
I am no Man U fan, but I have respect for most of what they have acheived. They have grown their own players, they have made their own money, they have won the Champions League, with eleven players from the UK in the squad. I can't imagine the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal or Liveroppol acheiving those things in the near future.
Sure they have a lot of fans from all over the UK and the World, in thier case that is a testament to their influence over many many years. Their worst average home attendance in modern times is over 36000. I went to see Chelsea about 20 years ago with a crowd of less than 8000 for a first division match.
I just think that we should drop the persistant slagging of Man U fans.

Ignoring Chelsea, Man Utd are where they are today due to an awful lot of money.

Grown their own players? Didn't most of the 'golden era' come from elsewhere? They have had money for a long time and it has pushed them forward.

Chelsea by a light year.. used to work with a Leeds fan and he was a very nice chap.

The End.

EDIT: I will add though there are different types of hate for me..

It's FUN to hate Palace, what with the rivalry and such.

Chelsea are just c*nts.

I married a Leeds fan, worked with them and went to Elland Rd a few times in the late 60's and 70's. Leeds fans were arrogant but they were fans who went to matches and knew what they were talking about.
Chelsea fans on the other hand are arrogant but I've yet to meet a Chelsea season ticket holder or even one who goes regularly.

No believe you me, we hated Chelsea back in the 60's. I can remember a cup tie against them where we gave it all we got because it was Chelsea.

Well said. I still can't understand why all the saddos on here give a shit about clubs like chelsea, leeds or Utd. It just makes our fans (the vastly small proportion that use this site anyway) sound really bitter. Fair enough if you've got a valid reason, for instance if they kicked your head in in the 80's or something.
I reserve all of my hatred for pa**ce, they really are a vile stain on the universe

We might have a fierce rivalry with Palace but we are actually more alike than we like to think (which is probably what makes us good rivals)

Exactly. There is common ground. That's why I don't understandhow people can hate Leeds or Utd so much. Chelsea, like you said, in decades gone by when we actually played them, and the fact they are a London club could give someone a reason I suppose.
For the record I know a few Chelsea season ticket holders who have been going since the late 90s, I've been to a few games with them and always had a good time, although that was before Abramovich took over. They get pissed off with all the glory hunters as well

I'm thinking of the likes of Giggs, Beckham, Butt, the Nevilles etc, that's when they really were on song, and a joy to watch, and also when a lot of the anti Man U stuff started to really take bite. Also, for me, the greatest player ever in the Premiership, moved from Leeds to Man U for a mere £1M.

As for the money, at least they made their money through ticket sales, merchandising, and raising sponsorship money. Sadly the likes of Leeds, Blackburn & Newcastle never earned the money they spent, and have paid for it since. If Chelsea were to lose Abramovic tomorrow they would be so in debt they would probably fold.

So for me, Manchester United represent a football club that has been run on sustainable levels, spawned some superb players, and have been in the position to bring in some of the most exciting players in the world.

Don't get me wrong, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle, even Leeds and others, have also bought in great players, and have made the Premiership what it is, I watch it regularly and love it and have done so since its inception.

But I would still rather stand on the terrace, in a 10000 crowd, in the rain, singing "Good Old Sussex By The Sea" but that's a whole 'nother conversation.

Never a problem with Leeds, all the fans I've met are great.

Very worried about their situation - and I'd like to think we'd help their fans out if push came to shove.

Never met a "real" Chelsea fan, but I met a few Chelsea fans.

I actually don't hate Leeds, Chelsea or Palace for that matter - any person that supports their local team is all good in my eyes. If I was born in Croydon I would be on a palace messageboard right about now.

What winds me up however is the brighton locals strolling around in a chelsea shirt, there were hardly any 4/5 years ago, they were all wearing Arsenal shirts when they were top of the Prem. It is depressing to walk past young lads playing football on Preston park on a saturday and trying to spot aty least one kid in an albion shirt.

I hate Chelsea more than leeds for the fact that many of their supporters my age are ignorant to anything below the premiership & they keep going on about how bad everyone else is. What if THEY were in OUR position, then the ignorant pricks would understand.

I still h8 palace & Man u more though

Not forgetting Lewes FC & their idiot council

erm, why exactly?

Reading yes, they are a perfect example of what a club in our position is capable of.

Portsmouth, no, I'd rather support a shit team than a team with no soul.

How have Portsmouth got no soul?
During past Premeirship matches I have been imprsessed by the amount of noise the fans make, not exactly souless.
