The wages the club could afford and he would be happy with...?

It's not as though Derby County look like retaining him.

No disrespect meant, but why are people so obsessed with a players wages.

Surely if the Chairman is happy to meet a players wage demands, then that should be satisfactory enough.

It's not our job as fans to check every piece of a players contract and to be honest, in most respects it's none of our business.

If Bloom wants to pay Lee Hendrie £10k a week because he thinks he's worth it, then let him.

I'd rather he pay that for someone of Hendrie's calibre than 5 crap players on £2k a week!

I agree, whether a player earns £10 or £10k per week would not make me decide he is a benefit to the team. I judge a player on his ability not his earnings as that is not my concern and if the club board think it is a good deal, whatever he earns, then that is ok by me.

Like many I have opinions on certain players but have no idea what their wages are.

Stupid, nonsensical argument. There is a FINITE playing budget. It might be big, but it is still finite. Paying £x to one player, means that the remaining budget for OTHER potential signings is Total - £x.

This is why it IS relevant how much he would earn, before you can judge if you want him to sign. Because it is not simply a case of 'do you want him or not'. Its 'do you want him instead of somebody else'. [In this case posibbly two or more 'someone else's].

I would be disgusted if we paid a player like hendrie 10k a week. I know youve just plucked that figure out of the sky to make a point but irrespective of how good or not a player is, I would always expect the club to look for value for money and not waste it.

Based on what I saw of him at Gillingham & Southend (his first two starts I believe?), I would defo offer a contract. Looks a different class on the ball, just needs to get 100% match fit.

Got to be a good addition for his experience. The discussion on whether he is the best way to spend the cash will become valid - we will only know when we see who the other targets are!

taken from an article last year.

'The Football League are set to take the unprecedented step of imposing a salary cap on Championship clubs at the start of the 2010-11 campaign.

Clubs voted unanimously in favour of the landmark move at their annual summer meeting in Portugal in a bid to avert the imposing threat of financial meltdown.

Football League chairman Sir Brian Mawhinney successfully applied the restrictions on League's One and Two five years ago.

But he has been powerless to restrict over-spending in the Championship after a number of clubs stubbornly resisted the move.......

The likelihood is the League will look to put in the same restrictions that apply to Leagues One and Two, where clubs are prevented from spending more than 75 per cent of their income on all club wages.'

There is a salary cap in Leagues one and two, one of the reasons why so few clubs in these leagues get into financial trouble, so any players wages are important.

Stop posting these silly 'sensible' things. The salary is NOT RELEVANT. Apparently.

... would he be a good permanent addition to the squad?

The question raised was would he be a good addition? Not would he be value for money.

So if you stuck to the question what would your answer be?

I thought it was fairly obvious that that was the question I asked.

Evidently not.

Er sorry, Alan, but you're WRONG. I know that's hard to take, but, hey...

The question was 'would he be a good addition'.

My answer, and I've explained in detail WHY, is that you can't decide that without knowing what proportion of the playing budget, his 'addition' would eat up.

How is that hard to get?

You're quite right. I got my concept of asking a question wrong and don't know how to ask questions, and anyone who argues with your supplemental point is stupid and talking nonsense.

I think I've been put in my place now.

Excellent. Glad we got there in the end.

Now, had you said "Do you think Hendrie is a decent player?"

I'd have said "Yes, Alan, I think he's still got it, and I hope he is here next year".

Lovely day, isn't it?

Even if they knew todays outcome they wouldnt swap the good timesthey had in the Premiership for continued existence in Div 1 or 2.

In our case we have, we believe, an astute chairman who is also a fan so he wouldnt jeopardise his poersonal wealth, his family security and his football club by extravagence that he couldnt afford. At least I dont think he would.

You're right TB doesn't strike me as the gambling sort. Oh hang on.....

The question is 'Would Hendrie be a good addition to the squad?' not, 'Would Hendrie be a good addition to the squad taking into account his wages are high?'

Would Lionel Messi be a good addition to our squad?

Actually, ignore my last concilliatory post, you sanctimonious old BEAR, you...

My POINT is absolutely NOT 'supplemental' is it? You asked, "Would he be a good addition".

Given that his signature and the associated costs, might weaken other parts of the squad, then along with opinion on his actual TALENT, the wages asked are actually the central point.

Again. You're wrong.

Carry on.

So what your saying hkfc is, the 112 people who have voted 'yes' on this poll, shouldn't have voted because they don't know how much his wages would be?

I think it's better to interpret 'good addition' as meaning 'good enough for us' without taking into account wages. Keeps it simple, eh? If we had to take into account wages no-one would have voted on the poll!

Could we draw up a performance based/games played type contract?

Not sure if it's that common in english football but I know alot of other sports deal in such contracts.

If he gets fit and plays alot of games for us he's on a good earner.

If he gets injured alot and we see sod all games from him we arent going to be paying over the top for his services.
