Yes that must have been a very uncomfortable moment for him, often in the Labour party you do have to hold banners of the party leader in group shots. If you are trying to imply he was a supporter of Corbyn, that is a massive fib, he's always been a fixer of the Labour Right.

Here's the contemporaneous truth https://www.chad.co.uk/news/lee-anderson-deselected-as-labour-candidate-1056027

“I can only put it down to the fact that I don’t always toe the line - I did not back Jeremy Corbyn as leader of the Labour party and I was in favour of Brexit"
Just wondering LI why you voted for Brexit (I did too), but I've thought about my choice often. On the subject of Jeremy Corbyn, I always assumed he was in favour of Brexit, both George Galloway and Dennis Skinner have said as much.

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
Another person who thinks it's fine to ignore the fact that every single UK political leader pledged to carry out the results of the referendum immediately prior to the vote.

And we wonder why so many people have so little faith in our political system and politicians more generally?

Yes Michael Foot and Liz Truss are almost inseparable in their political positions. :lolol:

Oh wait, you weren't actually serious.

Or were you?

I can no longer tell. Well done everyone!

*goes off for a lie down in a darkened room*
welcome to the future of AI, fake news et al. Soon won’t know what true, whats serious, what’s concerning or even joyous.

Whatever the reasons for voting for Johnson were, one was the fact that his opponent was viewed as being totally unelectable( i.e. even worse than Johnson) to a huge number of the electorate . The people who should really feel ashamed were the bods who elected Corbyn as leader of the Labour Party!
Regrettably, I'm inclined to agree.

He spent his entire career campaigning against it, not surprising from his history as a Bennite. Nothing wrong with that as long as you are consistent.

He saw the EU as a threat to socialism.

The problem he then faced was not so much hypocrisy, but political reality. A huge influx of rightly pissed off young voters joined the Labour party agreeing with Corbyn on most things, but completely opposed to his views on the EU. I amazed so many never bothered to check.

Corbyn then effectively side-stepped the issue as an act of self preservation. He was in a no win situation.

I often go into mid election hibernation but awoke today after listening to his speech. I will say though that there are a lot of people in the electorate who agree with him.
Make of that what you will.

Someone described them in the pub the other day as a ‘Liberal Democrat Tribute Act’
But yet they have veered more to the right than anytime in my lifetime. That's effect of social media I'm afraid as your family will well now.

If that view is based on the immigration, I'm sorry but if that person voted for Brexit they never read the small print.

Reform want to nationalise 50% of public utilities, I wonder what Thatcher would have thought ?

And he does it again.

In terms of his debating skills there really isn't a plan b is there ?

Construct the opposing argument then argue against it. It's very very post truth.
Post truth, another meaningless buzzzword centrist cliche to avoid actually engaging in debate, doesn’t bother me but you raised Corbyn’s record on Europe but just don’t want to respond to any of the rebuttals

This totally nails it

Precisely, so beating up Starmer for some sort of nit-picky bolleaux is ludicrous.

Where's @London Pompous when you need him? ???
It was too late when the referendum was lost in 2016. But a bunch of self absorbed clowns had to wave their little EU flags for the following 3 years and condemn us to Boris Johnson

I voted Remain in 2016. But democracy means the will of the people couldn’t be subverted by silly legal ruses otherwise that would provoke a huge political backlash from the people. And that’s what we got in 2019

Except at the last general election when he was the architect of Labour’s ‘negotiate a better deal and then give the people a second vote on it’ manifesto pledge. The pledge that cost Labour many of the ‘red wall’ seats.

Which would have, ironically, got Brexit done. LIke, actually got it done.

Corbyn still being punished to this day on an issue he was spot on correct about

It is quite right that Starmer is still judged to on his ‘final day’ referendum policy thought up whilst he was in post as shadow Brexit secretary.

It lost Labour MPs seats in constituencies that had largely voted leave.
