Time will tell. I’ll await the apology when he leaves and the club confirm that he turned down several improved contract offers.

Calm down - no one is ‘assuming he’s not going to regain form’! if he doesn’t go this window, he will almost certainly go in the Summer and it certainly won’t be ‘off the back of a few ropey performances’ but because Trossard wants a Big 7 club and a chance to play Champions League football.. Our top players will always be moving on now (unless we become a Champions Club) so people need to get used to it. There’s absolutely no point in hanging onto players if they don’t want to be here. Nobody's binning him off. If we adtivate (if we haven't already done so) his contract extension, he's contracted to us until summer 2024. If he doesn't sign a new contract, he will walk away for free.
Alternatively he can leave in January, in the summer, or next January, for successively reducing transfer fees. The club's decision has to be based on the balance between diminishing financial return and his usefulness as a player - also factoring in the chances of him pushing for a move and, if not actually downing tools, getting a bit mardier. My guess is that he won't be here next season - and yes, that is purely a guess!

Writing is on the wall for me with RDZ basically publically calling him out for a lack of effort since returning from the World Cup. This is something we've all seen and I'm glad RDZ has taken this stance. Trossard is clearly talented but he's also very inconsistent. My biggest concern is that I can't see any top 6 team wanting to pay the money we will likely want for him. Personally I'd take anything north of £30m today

The crucial factor being - his usefulness as a player (to us). He's been a bit shonky of late, but thats post World Cup and as stated previously, not overly unusual for someone who tends to blow hot and cold. With Mitoma on the scene though, he's now got some serious competition. He'll need to up his game, and I wouldn't back against him doing that. If he downs tools and sulks, then the absolute best he'll end up with is somewhere like West Ham. Hardly a step up.

Yes, successively reducing fees the nearer he gets to the end of his contract. Yes, of course he can sign a pre-contract next Januaryto leave for free in the summer of 2024 - which he can do anyway. It makes no difference other than that he'll know where he's going - from the club's point of view, it's exactly the same as just running down his contract..
If anyone wants him next January, they'll still have to pay a transfer fee.

Bissouma’s form dipped in Jan last year which I expect was due to a similar contract/ wish to leave issue. We simply don’t like losing players mid season.Biss came round with the knowledge ( I expect) that we’d let him go for the right price in the summer.
Tross needs to get his head around the situation and then remember that it’s a better way forward to put 100% into his performances until the situation resolves. Whether he will or not is another thing.. Roberto has certainly taken a different stance to how Potter addressed the Bissouma issue.

As you say, it was the point about no one winning. Then I kind of rambled on!!

I love the De Zerbi is taking no shit from players. Great teams thrive on clarity of leadership and consistency and we appear to have that with RDZ.

Interesting reading posts on here and comparing Tross, who I highly rate, to Mitoma and realise that Tross's ability to go missing in games just isn't there with Mitoma.

Yes Tross is a very good footballer and we'll miss him if/when he leaves. But we'll be a very good side without him.

And he could end up being a Dale Stephens, leave, fail and end up without a team in a few years.
