And there is where your argument dies. Since when did BHAFC inform the media of it's internal contract negotiations?
Since never. His agent mentioned it in August or September though that they were in talks about a new contract.
It also makes no sense that the club would not even try to negotiate a new deal with a key player.

Exactly. It's the point of "turning down SEVERAL contract offers" like we've put 3-4-5? offers to him and he's said no to them all.

Could still be in negotiations on the first for all we know.

Sure, ok, can agree with that.
For all we know yes... but I suspect these negotiations are not going very well in that case.

Time will tell. I’ll await the apology when he leaves and the club confirm that he turned down several improved contract offers.

His agent has made it known publicly that he’s already turned down an improved contract.

De Zerbi on the absence of Trossard. 'I want more from him - he can work harder, he can run more on the pitch, and I want players who give 100% in every training session and every game. Without these characteristics, then they can’t play with me.'

From Naylor in the Athletic -

Brighton have an option to extend Trossard’s existing contract, which runs out this summer, by another year to June 2024. According to reports in Belgium, the 28-year-old has persistently rejected offers of a new deal.

Calm down - no one is ‘assuming he’s not going to regain form’! if he doesn’t go this window, he will almost certainly go in the Summer and it certainly won’t be ‘off the back of a few ropey performances’ but because Trossard wants a Big 7 club and a chance to play Champions League football.. Our top players will always be moving on now (unless we become a Champions Club) so people need to get used to it. There’s absolutely no point in hanging onto players if they don’t want to be here. Have we ever lost players and not got better ones?
I am perfectly calm, thank you for your concern. I'm just not quite ready to bin off a prize asset like Trossard quite as readily as some folk on here, neither am I convinced he is Bissoumaring his way out. Time will tell.

Nobody's binning him off. If we adtivate (if we haven't already done so) his contract extension, he's contracted to us until summer 2024. If he doesn't sign a new contract, he will walk away for free.
Alternatively he can leave in January, in the summer, or next January, for successively reducing transfer fees. The club's decision has to be based on the balance between diminishing financial return and his usefulness as a player - also factoring in the chances of him pushing for a move and, if not actually downing tools, getting a bit mardier. My guess is that he won't be here next season - and yes, that is purely a guess!

Writing is on the wall for me with RDZ basically publically calling him out for a lack of effort since returning from the World Cup. This is something we've all seen and I'm glad RDZ has taken this stance. Trossard is clearly talented but he's also very inconsistent. My biggest concern is that I can't see any top 6 team wanting to pay the money we will likely want for him. Personally I'd take anything north of £30m today

The crucial factor being - his usefulness as a player (to us). He's been a bit shonky of late, but thats post World Cup and as stated previously, not overly unusual for someone who tends to blow hot and cold. With Mitoma on the scene though, he's now got some serious competition. He'll need to up his game, and I wouldn't back against him doing that. If he downs tools and sulks, then the absolute best he'll end up with is somewhere like West Ham. Hardly a step up.

Once we get to next January he can agree a pre contract with foreign clubs to join at the end of his contract so unlikely we'll get a fee then or it would be a small fee to release him from his contract early.

Yes, successively reducing fees the nearer he gets to the end of his contract. Yes, of course he can sign a pre-contract next Januaryto leave for free in the summer of 2024 - which he can do anyway. It makes no difference other than that he'll know where he's going - from the club's point of view, it's exactly the same as just running down his contract..
If anyone wants him next January, they'll still have to pay a transfer fee.

Wow, that is some put down if it’s verbatim.

In fact having read that it wouldn’t surprise me if we don’t see him in the stripes again, sounds like a standoff only one man will win.

Bissouma’s form dipped in Jan last year which I expect was due to a similar contract/ wish to leave issue. We simply don’t like losing players mid season.Biss came round with the knowledge ( I expect) that we’d let him go for the right price in the summer.
Tross needs to get his head around the situation and then remember that it’s a better way forward to put 100% into his performances until the situation resolves. Whether he will or not is another thing.. Roberto has certainly taken a different stance to how Potter addressed the Bissouma issue.

You say "win". Sadly, in these circumstances no one wins. Club still paying the player. Player not in the shop window. Squad taking extra strain of the missing option. Fans feeling rejected. It's a shitty but all too common scenario these days.

However, before we load hate onto Trossard's for being a selfish douche bag, I refer you to all the threads on here where we are happily replacing a current player with our new favourite, without a second thought.

Loyalty doesn't exist in football, in either direction, when it comes to players. We can just hope that they behave decently as they plan to leave and they can expect BHA to reciprocate.

You won’t and haven’t seen me say a word against Trossard, one of my all time favourite Albion players. My point is that it appears De Zerbi expects 100% from his players at all times and if Trossard doesn’t embrace that he won’t be playing again. “Win” was probably a bad choice of word.

Not convinced managers calling out players in public is wise long term either

And my point wasn't made to you really. You're a considered and informed poster I enjoy reading.

As you say, it was the point about no one winning. Then I kind of rambled on!!

I love the De Zerbi is taking no shit from players. Great teams thrive on clarity of leadership and consistency and we appear to have that with RDZ.

Interesting reading posts on here and comparing Tross, who I highly rate, to Mitoma and realise that Tross's ability to go missing in games just isn't there with Mitoma.

Yes Tross is a very good footballer and we'll miss him if/when he leaves. But we'll be a very good side without him.

And he could end up being a Dale Stephens, leave, fail and end up without a team in a few years.
