LCD or Plasma.

But aren't CRT's still enormous? Part of the reason for us to upgrade is to get something to go on the wall...

Yes, it is. The picture matters more for me, though.

And if that is the reason, then it's not really an upgrade, is it? It's a replacement; it may be an upgrade in decorative needs, but it's not a televisual upgrade.

Watching any HD programme on a LCD blows CRT out of the water. FACT.
The picture quality on SD programmes are better compared to a CRT when everything has been calibrated correctly rather than left on the factory default.

Not to mention LCDs and Plasmas don't flicker like CRT's, I can't watch CRTs now without this really being an annoying issue !!!

All women think that size is important if the offer of a bigger one becomes available

Thanks for the info. Can't really say that I'm any the wiser as to which way to go though, as (in the usual NSC way), there's no agreement. :D

I am leaning towards a Plasma, but it must be 1080p. The Panasonic does look good, and being honest, if I spend a few quid more to get a good 'un now, I'll have it for many years, so it's not an issue really.

It has always received the 5 Star reviews, a good choice I would imagine, but to be sure, make sure you get to see one in action first

Including HD CRTs?

Samsung launched a 32 in HD CRT about 18 months ago. Obviously so popular it has dropped off the radar, no doubt due to the retail price being too high - double the expected £350 launch price. Picture quality was supposed to be similar to a HD ready lcd but since then other Sammy sets have vastly improved. Samsung screens are now manufactured at the same plants as Sony.

I've just bought a Samsung F86 LCD. Incredible HD picture, breathtaking.

Look in Forums here http://www.avforums.com/, for some good advice, reviews.

100hz CRTs don't flicker, which is what any large size one SHOULD be for some years now. You get worse picture judder on a cheap LCD than any effects on a CRT give.

Got a 50" Panasonic PLasma in the end (hope it's not going to look too big in my lounge/diner - but it's a reasoonable size room).

Couldn't see any noticable difference in quality between that and the Pionerr for an extra £1700. As I'm hoping to move in the new year, will wait until then to get a good sound system for it.

Got from Hills in Portslade. Could maybe have got a bit cheaper on the Web, but it's good to kow that there's someone to go back to if anything does go wrong.

I bought my LCD at Hills. Always worth going to a smaller trader like them, the sales advice and after-sales service is far better than you'd get from the likes of Currys.
