Me neither. Literally the only show I try and watch is Top Gear. Some nights, like last night, the TV does not even go on.

Should be fab for DVDs and, to a lesser extent, the Wii though.

I'll agree though that when looking for a new tv that I am enticed by those with less black around them like the one you've spotted. Can't be dealing with massive sides and underlighting and all manner of other tosh...Thats why I like the Sony one, rather unassuming and plain to be honest - but thats what I want...

Most of our tv at the moment is watched by Arthur - countless replays of Thomas and Roary whilst he has his breakkie and milk then it generally goes off for the day til late evening...

Really? I didn't know that - just about to call SKy and see how much the HD will cost us too!! Do they do different HD boxes like for the standard sky?
Apart from buying the box there is a £10 a month HD subscription. They only make one HD box (different manufacturers will be also making them soon alongside Thomson). Sky also have a standard receiver and a Sky+ box , the ordinary boxes are becoming obsolete so a Sky+ box is a second option if you dont upgrade to a HD box.

Does't have a 1080p/24 mode though, so not ideal for HD movies.

I think the ZF version does - out in Europe now, UK early next year.
The1080p/24 option is essential for watching HD movies on HD DVD or Bluray.

I knew about the £10 extra was kind of wondering if they'd do us a deal on the installation etc. We only have one tele so this multiroom stuff isn't for us, but since the box will sit out all the time - the fan business worried me!! I'm a bit anal about background noise as it bothers my delicate audio receivers

Go for the Sony , if you're not glued to it all day its pointless going for all the bells and whistles when a regular set will do.

Are you going through every thread repeating what I just said?!
No , I was pointing out this mode is perfect for watching HD movies on Bluray and HD DVD whereas Sky HD movies are transmitted in 1080i.

The only way to upgrade a CRT TV is to buy a better CRT TV. I haven't yet found a flatscreen which matches good CRT. Admittedly, some are getting close - but they're not there yet.

Is the correct answer.

But aren't CRT's still enormous? Part of the reason for us to upgrade is to get something to go on the wall...

Full HD is a country mile better than CRT ..

And when have people seen a CRT with HD capability? Especially HDMI inputs. Some of us have HD players and games consoles to make the most of.
There was a CRT HD Ready TV on the market earlier this year.

Apart from reading about the specs and getting comparisons from magazines the only way to judge if the TV is right for you is to see it in action. An independent dealer will do a demo for you to show off its true potential. Dont bother asking a spotty oik in Comet or places like that because they dont have a clue and will give you a load of bullshit.

Get a plasma.

Panasonic TH42PX70 is the bees knees although you might want a sound system as well as the sound is average. The picture quality is superb and it looks fantastic on a wall or a stand.
