my son's girlfriend bought one at the weekend from tesco for £299. Admittedly the graphics may not be fantastic, but she doesn;t need that. wants it for uni, has wifi connection, everything she needs, and 60gb hard drive.

I'd say Dell, if not that then a Dell. Sony overpriced and these days don't have a good reputation, HP are solid but more expensive. Toshiba is worth a look but Dell will give you the best deal, that's what I would buy anyway.

Of course you could always get a mortgage and buy a Mac ! :lolol::lolol::lolol:

I'll give you a bloody good reason to pass on this one, IT USES VISTA !!!!!!:eek:

yep agree with that, brought a compaq laptop with vista on it on april and its hasnt been that fantastic, vista is still incompatible with a lot of programs although it is starting to improve. Does anyone know when the service packs come out for it??

Actually many of the problems are that the firmware of things like Wi Fi cards need to be updated. Vista is nearly as bad as the original Windows NT.

I've got Vista and it sems to be fine with most, if not all the programs i have - it's a bit funny with itunes, but it works!

Vista's replacement comes out in 2010. Might be worth sticking with XP until then.

Tesco has the Acer AS5613AWSMi in store at Holmbush for £499 (£599 online). Has 160 GB HDD and 2GB RAM with the 15.4" screen. Got a decent reveiw in the PC mags when it first came out with only 1GB RAM.

Got one for my sister-in-law last week and she is very pleased with it. The Acer 3 year warranty (collect & return) is only another £53 so good value.

Try being a refurbished one from currys or pc world. You get full 12 month warranty and the prices are really good. For £300 you will get one that brand new would be £500:thumbsup:
