But they are gambling the future of our club.

Yes absolutely. They are gambling Maupay stays fit and in form. What some on here don’t seem to realise is that if we go down we will lose roughly £100m plus a season. We will then be fighting for survival of the club. So, in that context, is skimping on the required striker prudent? I will answer that rhetorical question... it is not.

It's not rhetorical if you answer it.

The only way that we are fighting for the survival of the club is if we over spend on players. If we are prudent with our spending we can ride out the relegation and have another crack.

There is no guarantee that spending big on a striker will be successful. I am happy that the club are waiting for the right player rather than spunking more of Bloom's money on someone who still may bit give us the goals we need.

Hold your nerve, this squad is plenty good enough to stay up. The club have a plan for this and as yet they haven't let us down.

We have played brilliantly this season so far but unfortunately have had as tougher opening few games as anyone. We have been scoring goals, been desperately unlucky in two of our games. Wiped the floor with one of our direct rivals and we're let down by our defence yesterday, not our attack.

I'll answer your non rhetorical question too. I am happy for the club to be prudent. Last time we tried the other way it ****ed us up for 20 years.

Given that Tony had put over 200 million pounds into the club and given us success I think it is only reasonable that we give him the benefit if the doubt. You could always ask him if you can chuck in some cash for a gamble on an expensive new striker. Clock's ticking though.

Think it's important right now to remember that Connolly doesn't really resemble a striker. For me he is an inside forward coming in from the left.
He also massively relies on confidence.
So we have ONE senior striker at the club.

I agree. It's just alarming. If maupay gets injured we are in serious trouble. As much as potter has delusions of grandeur we are not Barcelona.

I am convinced we will get a striker in before the window shuts. Possibly two.

Given the way this club is now run I will be shocked if we get to the window slamming shut without having signed another striker.

I agree, but can you imagine the meltdown if we lose our next match to Palace and even possibly West Brom?

I still don't understand why we're playing COnnolly and Maupay together, I don't think it works As a pairing, always bemoaning each other and trying to do the same things

Troassard as an inside Left and AJ as an inside right with a single striker I think would work better. OR we get a bigger striker to complement Maupay/COnnolly . . .which is maybe where the club see Zequiri fitting in ?

It is right we are short of a striker compared to all other clubs so must hope new Swiss player can contribute. Still think they are hoping to get by until Androne is fit. Just as much of a concern is if he wants to revert to 4 at back only left full back we have is Bernardo who he doesnt seem to rate which will mean again a CB playing there.
All our midfielders are attacking players. This leaves us vulnerable to breaks and to be honest we havent replaced Stevens to mainly defend and break up attacks. The only 2 we have that are comfortable in that position are Molumby and Sanders but are they ready.
Agree our style is good to watch but priority is to stop letting in goals. After lockdown we played very well with 4 at back. Has he gone to 3 now because we have 3 £20m CBs and doesnt want to leave one out

Yup. There are no forward options apart from Maupay, Connolly, Trossard, March, Gross, Ali J and andone and izquierdo coming back from injury. Apart from that, bare bones.

Gross is a midfielder, Solly’s playing LWB in case you hadn’t noticed (and we’ve no decent cover there either) and two of those are long term injured. So 4 players for 3 first team slots. I guess that’s one more than bare bones, and Zeqiri to add. But it ain’t riches that’s for sure.

Andone and Zeqiri are that 3 and 4 you're asking about. Gyokeres in the future.

Hopefully we won't need to play one of our many, many attacking midfielders 'upfront' without a proper partner.

It's not a panic about lack of numbers. But if you look at experience then yes we're very light up front.

I'll check back later to see how you are doing (if I can be arsed)

Off to watch football :bigwave:

I completely fail to understand references on here to "fishing". Surely the reason people post on here is because they have an opinion they wish to voice. An opinion is an opinion. Why is it "fishing"? How do you draw the line between voicing an opinion and "fishing"?

To those posters on here who are constantly on about "fishing", my suggestion is to get yourselves a life. Read posts if you want to. Reply if you want to. Ignore if you want to. And if your childish little mind considers a post to be "fishing", so what? It's not a crime. Yet.

Just have to correct your understanding of rhetorical questions: “a question asked in order to create a dramatic effect or to make a point rather than to get an answer.”

Oh, and my point about not investing being a gamble stands. Even if you don’t see it...

I know what a rhetorical question is. If you have answered your own question within a sentence or two of asking it then it was surely designed to get the answer you provided. What you have used is a Anthypophora/Hypophora. Anyway back to the subject in hand.

Of course your point stands, it's an opinion. It just happens to be one I disagree with.

Oh well now 16th, we have our mini league already

A lot on here would have you believe this is where it’s all at though. Settle down into our little league of five, know our place and keep ourselves in with a chance of going down until the penultimate fixture before securing safety and sending them home happy, after another glorious season setting records like worst home run, worst away run, least number of chances and most woodwork chipped. Still, we did run 6 of the best teams close in one or two fixtures (but ignoring we didn’t draw or win, but hey, we’re Brighton and teams like Villa, W.Ham, W.Brom, Palace, Leeds, Everton etc are all CL regulars and expected to pick up points against Chelsea, Citeh, Liverpool, Utd and co. But us? Nah...). And besides, VAR and refs cheated us - for the 4th season running! Which is another record! We’re so unlucky. But at least we know/kept our place, and got a mention on MOTD during February when Lineker and co realised we were actually in the top flight. Ow, and we beat Fulham by a solitary goal. Away. Which means we’ve improved, marginally, year on year for 5 seasons. And it’s all about the marginal gains. You can’t expect to just leap up the table by getting a point against any of the top 10 sides away, not until you’ve been in the PL for 10 seasons at least. If you’re looking for a win, it’s 20. Minimum. Employing the much admired Brighton Way. According to the rose tinted losers anyway...:shootself

I try and be a positive poster and am overall delighted with the direction of the club, the ethos and the way we play. But I am finding it increasingly difficult to understand the clubs position in relation to our attacking options given that one bad injury could undo so much of the great work. On the bench today we have no forward options at all. It’s just not an acceptable position for a premier league club aspiring to be more than just relegation battlers.

I look at clubs that we consider realistic rivals and they all, and I mean all, have greater strength and depth. Look at Villa, Sheffield United, Newcastle, Burnley. Southampton, West Ham, all have three four first team strikers to call on.

Look at the number of games we have in December how can we possibly think we can survive that with two strikers, it ridiculous.

I know this topic has been done to death and the usual posters will be along to defend everything the club does but on this topic it simply Is not good enough. I understand we need to be prudent in our financial dealings given the pandemic but if the situation is so desperate that we need to tackle a compressed season with only two forwards then someone should say so.

Our forward recruitment since we joined the EPL has been poor. We are now almost immune to it and how does the proverb go; insanity is doing the same thing over and over and hoping for a different outcome.

Anyone who doesn’t think we would benefit from having at least Murray as an option on the bench today is deluded and is blind to a real issue.

P.s if we do end up signing a striker before the window closes I will be delighted to eat humble pie!

THIS. We desperately need another option with strength, height or both. Too predictable otherwise imo. Don’t think we’re gonna sign anyone though ☹️

Andone maybe the 3 when he returns next year, hes not any number before then. Zeqiri may be a 4 he may not, nobody knows if he will sink or swim at this level.

As for Gykores, he may be the future if we go down but I doubt he will if we stay in the PL.

None of Gykores, Zeqiri or Andone are PL matchday squad ready and that is what we desperately need to address, for if Maupay gets crocked, we're in a self inflicted hole.
