Ignorance of the law is generally not defense. I remember the changes being announced in the mid 1990's when I was not interested in pensions in any way. Women had many years of enhanced state pension benefits compared to men. They got the benefits earlier and lived longer.
I agree that the Labour Party jumped on the bandwagon when it was not their responsibility and off it when it was. Politicians says popular things to get themselves elected.

Pensioners in this country are in the best position they’ve ever been, yet working people continue to struggle, and many have continued to struggle throughout the Tories’ tenure (of course there are exceptions). The Waspie women were warned and were given years to adjust to the incoming changes and to plan financially for their retirement. Most of them simply haven’t worked and haven’t planned, and I see no reason why working people in this country, many of whom are up against it, should be made to cover them whilst they continue to bleed the country dry.

It’s this kind of thing that’s leading to the ever increasing generational divide we see in this country. They’ve been given something - they should be bleeding grateful for it considering the fortuitous position many of them find themselves in, and the position many of them have put the country in with their voting choices over the past decade.
Sorry but is that all or some? You seem to indicate all..is that correct?

I'd say some, but have a question to you: others can answer it too (thus far answers haven't been forthcoming).
You seem greatly concerned about the WFA threshold (fwiw, I'd like it set a little higher -- but that means it needs to be paid for, and my answer is to tax assets). Why have you given this so much attention when the Two Child policy is far more widespread and devastating, to which scant or any attention has been given by so many on these political threads?

Good because to say all would be a sweeping generalisation

Re WFA I guess because it’s only happened recently therefore is a current topic …because I know people who are effected by it

..re the two child policy you are totally correct we/i should give it more attention..duly noted

You have to apply for pensions credit so why not make the same rule for WFA. Cut off point? How about somewhere near what someone on pensions credit gets in extra help & not just the WFA.
That would add another layer of administration which would come at a cost. Getting pension credits, even if you are only £1 inside the threshold, opens the door to many more benefits.

Nor is anyone, and noone has suggested we should.

What about those on just over £11k a year, no savings and for whom the £200/£300 was a lifeline to help them get through the winter months with a small amount of heating on the very coldest days?

Has Craig now entered politics now he's hung up his boots?

That's a bit disingenuous and, as at 2023, incorrect. Malta, Germany and the Netherlands all had higher rates and the UK, on 25% were the same as Belgium, France, Spain and Turkey!
Well I don’t know about disingenuous, according to your figures out of 40+(44?) countries in Europe only 3 have a higher rate than us not 2

Were Windrush, Infected Blood, Post Office, Grenfell in the manifesto ?.

Weren't the first three all related to agreements reached before Labour came to Government and I don't think there has been any compensation from the Government over Grenfell! Payments received by the Grenfell victims relate to legal cases against those responsible, including Kensington Council

A top campaign adviser to US President-elect Donald Trump has called the incoming UK ambassador to the US, Lord Peter Mandelson, "an absolute moron".

In a post on social media, Chris LaCivita said Lord Mandelson "should stay home".
Mr LaCivita, who was a co-campaign manager for Trump's presidential election bid, criticised the British government's decision saying it was replacing a "professional universally respected ambo [ambassador] with an absolute moron".

Whilst you centrists argue against yourselves I see the appointment of Mandy, the absolute moron, as US Ambassador is going down well with Trump's campaign. 😲

I think some people need to be put into those positions and maybe they might think again
I think we just need to ask more about how so many people have come to be in those positions in the first place. Chucking people 200 pounds a year isn't going to change the underlying issues or prevent this continuing in the future. Energy prices are too high, housing is too expensive, wage inequality continues to rise, food prices are rising, it's hard to save money. I don't know if the current government can change course but we need to get to a place where large swathes of society are not relying on handouts but live in a country where they don't need them.

According to Radio 2 news this morning today s the last day to apply for WFA credit. They interviewed a pensioner who said it is a 20 page questionnaire with 240 questions. Many of the answers require financial proof of income, savings etc. so it's perhaps understandable why so many needy pensioners can't, or won't, attempt such a document.

It’s going down badly because that’s the message this Government have wanted to send to Donald Trump by appointing Mandelson is f*** you.

Mandelson has not been very political in his views of Trump labelling him amongst other things a white supremacist.

Mandelson is an avowed EU enthusiast, it’s unlikely he will be on the same page as Trump on any bilateral matters.

Mandelson, and perhaps this may be most significant of all, was very well connected to Epstein. Whilst there’s no indication he was part of any abuse, but Mandelson was staying with Epstein even when the charges had been made public. In the eyes of many Americans Keir may as well have appointed Prince Andrew.

What an absolute moron.

I forgot the Epstein friendship, although not sure Epstein had young boys alongside his underage girls.
President Musk had already suggested Starmer give the job to Farage. Hard to see Mandelson achieving much. We should have sent a Stormy Daniels looky likey. 😆
