you mean the funding formula that gives Scotland and Wales more money per head than England? our devolved nations have been useful experiment in alternative policy and repeated show simply having more money doesn't solve public service problems.

Another leader's Q&A session on QT tonight, the key takeaway is no errors from Starmer. I fast forwarded the second half of Swinney, he's OK but nowhere near as impressive as SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn.

I'd say all 3 main leaders scored a solid 7/10, but for Rishi that isn't good enough. Apparently freeports are a Brexit benefit - who knew? He is feistier and more sure of himself but constantly events conspire against him, be it the D Day disaster or tonight's election date betting scandal.

Population density is lower, for the most part in Wales and Scotland. Its harder to provide some services to 5 million people spread across Scotland than to 10 Million people all living within the M25. Also generally poorer areas than much of England which adds pressure to services. It isn't just a case of policy, and hard to judge on just heads vs pounds.

There is a part of me that feels sorry for him, as he IS getting better with experience but has just run out of time.

He asked the country to judge him on 5 pledges, i.e. the absolute numbers over an 18 months period. That was a naive move and he has been hoist by his own petard. I think he will come to regret his early election call too - he could have delayed it until interest rates started coming down and the Rwanda flights were taking off. Overall, he seems to be a man in too much of a hurry (see also D Day)

Starmer - by contrast - is resisting putting a timeframe on achieving results, and this will bear political fruit. People are more likely to trust you if you cut out the own goals and the wholly unachievable targets.

Not me for sure. The first Freeport was set up by dear ol' Maggie in the 1980s. David Cameron when he was Tory PM decided to ditch Freeports and they were resurrected again in 2019 under Johnson.

There haven't been, so far as I can see, any Brexit benefits at all. Johnson's "oven ready Brexit" was just a turkey. I think there could have been had the Tories not been incapable of negotiating a half decent deal.

The lego elvis doesn't appear to have the capacity to tell the truth about anything.

As for the debate, I wasn't keen on the format nor on Fiona Bruce trying to be "star of the show". I would have loved to have been on the show and simply say to Sunak:-

"You promised to halve NHS waiting lists and that we should judge you on that. They have gone up. So I will be judging you as you requested and will not be voting for you. And I urge everyone else to judge you as you asked".

I hate to say it but I think Sunak beat Keir last night by a margin, Keir was very slow in responses and wide eyed, where Sunak was sharp, quick and passionate. I have not read how the polls/public saw it, but that was very much how the missus and I saw it.
That said there's no need to panic, as labour should still wipe the floor with the Tories.

I saw it a little differently. Thought Kier was OK albeit cautious whereas Sunak was desperate and pleading for votes! Having said that, he's had a nightmare scenario to deal with and looks broken overall. The daily Express which I believe generally supports the tories poll amongst readers has Kier winning by 65% to 35%.

I agree, I thought SKS did fine, it sounded like Sunak was jeered at the end by the audience as the credits went up and at no point did I feel the audience really turn on SKS like they did with Fishi when he was talking about leaving the ECHR.

At this stage though it's like playing the second leg of a champions league semi and you are 5-0 up from the away leg and just need to get through the home leg to get to the final. No need to anything crazy , just be solid at the back, take the chances when they come and let the opposition keep scoring own goals (and crikey they are doing that just fine!!!).

Maybe we got it wrong then. I was talking to a chap I meet on the bus sometimes, he thought Bruce should be PM as she has more charisma and presence than all of them put together!

I think that the party was founded in 1900, having grown out of the trade union movement and socialist parties of the 19th century.

It should reflect 'hurting' workers issues and not become a Tory-lite brand.
Additionally, I feel it will be detrimental to the nation should they ignore the wishes of their largest Union donor.
