Says some very depressing things about our country, when you look at the two candidates. When did we become a nation of selfish xenophobic *****?
When people started having to compete for scant resources(housing, healthcare, education etc) with immigrants ,next question.

Excellent speech. Full of common sense socialism.

A viable alternative to the Tories.

The NSC Blue Boys will snipe away at everything but the policies and principles.

John McDonnell: 'The next Labour government will be an interventionist government'

I'm 45, will I live to see that next Labour government?

Just to confirm - "unelectable" Jeremy "unelectable" Corbyn - elected twice to Labour leadership.
Theresa "strong, sensible, not a warmongering anti-human rights c.unt at all" May - elected 0 times.

Cool.

Everything that is wrong with the Jealousy Party, cannot win an intellectual discussion so resorts to abuse, Momentum member by any chance?

Exactly this.

The old school 'left wing' working classes don't really exist. The majority of the country has now shifted much more towards the centre ground, yet Labour is moving in the other direction. A centre-ist Labour party would have a real shot at winning a General Election.

Oh, this old chestnut again. "We're all middle class now".

Complete bollox!

The old working classes are still there. Not on council estates working in manufacturing. Now we're in private rented accommodation receiving housing benefit (last estimate is about 20bn of tax paysrs money) because there's not enough social housing and service sector & care work doesn't pay a living wage.

Corbyn's style of politics is more relevant now than it's ever been.

But no, you carry on. We're all middle class now.

I'm honestly not trying to snipe here but does the vast sums of money that Corbyn is talking about not worry you? He's talked about borrowing £500 billion to invest in various projects. That's going to add between 30% and 40% to our national debt.

Luckily of course, Corbyn would have to be in power to do this and the words Labour and Government won't be heard together for years to come.

Fair play if that's your opinion.

But less than 18 months ago, the country rejected a Labour party that was far more electable than the one under Corbyn.

The jump to the left given by the John McConnell speech will probably mean that the next official opposition to the 2020 Conservative Government will be the SNP.

It would be better if the Labour party set up individual offices in say India, Pakistan, Poland or Romania for donations, they could attract far more support than they do here, since they snubbed most of their old voters, called them xenophobes and in the process pushed a lot of people to the back of the queue.

You're thinking of PFI

That's just it, though. The vast majority of the country are not socialist and will not vote for a truly socialist party at a General Election.

That's what they were saying in 1945. It was widely thought that Atlee had little chance against Churchill

Clive Lewis is a pretty good orator, think he can become the acceptable face of a socialist labour party when Corbyn steps down.

I've had a little flutter on him becoming leader. Part of me thinks that he'll be leader at the next general election

I'm not a gambling man but if I were I'd put money on Corbyn being the leader in 2020 and the next Labour leader after him being a woman, not sure who but there are plenty of excellent candidates. I think there will be enormous pressure from all sides of the party to make this happen.
